My wife an I ate here in late Jan at lunchtime, the food was ok, the service was good, and the surroundings were nice and there were quite a few other people eating there which is always a good sign. If you want to eat in a pub in Wetherby at lunchtime this one is probably the best and has... More

Four of us had an evening meal. Lovely starter of pulled pork bhajis Followed by steak and ale pie which we all thought was delicious. The fruit crumble though was not crumble. It was granola! Awful. What a shame. The staff were lovely and the New Zealand wine nice although expensive at £26.

I have been a regular here for some years but have rarely dined - even though the look and smell of the food coming our of the kitchen is superb. Yesterday, an impromptu Sunday lunch consisting of Garlic Mushrooms and a sharing meat platter for two. Quality, cost and service was superb!

As locals and Having eaten and drank here many times, I booked in for Sunday lunch with family expecting usual good standards. The food was very average and they seemed mystified by the prospect of little children and how to cater for them (in a family pub). Furthermore, on asking where the baby changing facilities were, I was taken to... More

We had to tell the chap serving us 3 times what drinks we wanted and I overheard another family give up on their request... More

Eight in the evening and needing to eat , we stumbled across this pub and went in , not very busy so were seated quickly and the attentive bar guy seated and took drink orders leaving us to study the fairly small but well balanced and varied fare. Shortly after our food order was placed and brought by another attentive... More

Just had a beautiful lunch. Service and food was amazing. Over and above that, the absolute highlight was how they looked after my 8&1/2 month pregnant wife who didn't fancy anything from the menu and they made something just for her. Wow! Have to also mention this is the second time they have done this for us and nothing seems... More

Another excellent dinner at The Swan and Talbot. I have been several times and have never been disappointed. The staff are friendly and efficient, the food very nicely cooked and delicious . I had steak pie with chunky chips , the others had the hot dogs. All plates were clean and tummys full .... Thank you

Description
A pub for more than 400 years, The Swan and Talbot in Wetherby was once a posting inn on the Great North Road. Originally named the Dog and Swan, the pub was, until 1611, allowed to bear the coat of arms of the Swann family who lived at Askham Manor in nearby Askham Richard. The 'dog' was a talbot hound - an extinct type of hunting dog whose closest modern day descendant is the beagle - and the pub's name was changed to The Swan and Talbot. The pub and letting accommodation has recently seen extensive refurbishment and is proving to be a popular haunt for many of Wetherby's locals and destination diners. Inside, the pub has low ceilings befitting the age of the place, and at one end, a huge fireplace over which hangs a brief history of how it acquired its name.
