Great pub for drinks and views etc but sadly let down by a chef who seemed unable to cook steaks properly on our recent visit. Medium rare became well done and rare was between blue and medium! To be fair the bill was adjusted and the remaining meals were good but no apology and an air of indifference prevailed.

Just been for lunch with different members of our family on two occasions this week. On both visits we had excellent food and drink. The menu is quite extensive with choices from sandwiches up to full main meals, I had the ribs on the first visit, what a dish full. Drinks are not the cheapest around but a good selection of... More

Having been to the masons many times before with my family and enjoyed it I decided to take my parter who had never been before. From the moment we walked in the staff member we spoke to was rude and unhelpful when asking for a table. When we did get a table we both ordered hot sandwiches which were supposed... More

Called just before heading over, found they were stopping serving lunch in the next 30-40 mins. (New Years eve- closing at 3pm.) We shot over there as I was dying to try it and see the lovely views. Staff were very friendly and efficient despite us arriving and ordering food 5 mins before they stopped serving. Lovely and cosy inside,... More

Booked The Masons Arms for Boxing Day evening meal. Very nice welcome and lovely atmospheric pub. Decided against table upstairs (which would probably have been a good choice in daylight hours). Sat very close to roaring fire in very old-fashioned grate system. This may have been a little unwise as it was seriously hot but no other table available. The... More

The fact that this is on a steep hill overlooking the Lake District is enough to make this a winner for me; however, it delivers on all aspects. The outdoor seating area is lovely, the staff are welcoming, the menu is good, the food is superb and it is incredibly cosy. It really doesn't have any flaws...other than limited parking.... More

I ordered the lamb shank with red cabbage and potatoes. It was by far the absolute best lamb I have ever had, and probably one of the top 10 meals I have ever had in my life. Wonderful.

We decided to visit the Mason's as they were holding their Christmas market. It's fairly small with just a few stalls but there were some good gifts on offer - and yummy Christmas puddings to sample! After our shop we decided to have lunch, if we could, as it's always busy and we're delighted to find a small table. I... More
