We have been recommended this place by friends and it certainly lived up to expectations. We had the lunch menu, scotch egg to start and I had the lamb burger, both were very nice. Service was great, staff were very helpful.

We booked a table after reading the reviews and were not disappointed. The food was excellent.I had the duck dish for the main course, this was probably one of the best duck dishes I have had.The menu is varied if a little pricey but the quality of the food makes it worthwhile. The staff are friendly and the service , if a lilltle... Lunch and dinner are excellent here with some interesting menu options...modern British cuisine at reasonable prices with good staff. The view of the river from the restaurant is an added bonus . You'll need to book.

We went on a friends recommendation and I really wanted to like this place but sadly we weren't that impressed. We went for lunch. Both chose off the set menu two courses for £14 (which I think is quite good value actually). We both ordered a beetroot, walnut and goats cheese starter. I thought this would be a salad with... We booked this restaurant for our Easter Sunday evening meal on our last night in Durham, and it met all expectations. All the waiting staff made us so welcome. We were given an interesting appetizer of Hot Cross Bun with pulled rabbit (that reminded me of the old joke about Hot Cross Bunnies!). I had belly pork, decorated with a... More

The service is a bit slow, food more beautiful than taste, nice view. Quite experience for the quality.

I was sightseeing in Durham on my own and had sampled the usual franchises, which are generally good. I felt like something different and having almost walked past the entrance, descended the narrow stairs, without a reservation. Lovely, friendly welcome and soon had a G & T, looking out to the river. The menu was interesting and the meal was... More

So refreshing to see menus without the ubiquitous roast. One of us chose from the lunch set menu which was great value for £16 and the rest chose from the main menu. All the food was delicious, the service was excellent and the view over the river to Durham was amazing. We have often eaten at the Cellar Door and,... More

We pre-booked our meal as a group of 11. The service was excellent, as was the food. The baked Alaska, was very special, as poured with brandy and set alight in front of you, and it tasted yummy as well. This is a great restaurant in the main part of town, very good value.

Description
Passion. It is quite often impossible to summarise the experience created within a restaurant with just one word. Passion. Passion to produce the best food possible with the freshest and finest ingredients we can scour the world to find. Passion to strive to be the best. Passion to ensure that our customers remember. Passion to cater for people from all walks of life and give them a lasting memory of our restaurant. We're not going to tell you about how we have stunning river views with outdoor dining set in a 13th Century cellar conversion. We're not going to bore you with how difficult we are to find. We want you to come here, seek us out, walk down those narrow steps, be surprised by what lies beneath and leave wishing you had found us sooner. We're not perfect, we're not the best in the world, but we strive to be the best we can and evolve every day, so come join us on our journey.
