Stopped here for lunch on way back to Kendal from Morecambe. Lovely old pub by the canal. Warm welcome from staff they had an extensive menu and I choose beef chillie natcho's unfortunatly I was dissapionted the was very little beef chillie almost no cheese so basicly a bowl of natcho's shame as it was a lovely place.

Popped into this pub for a pint while walking along the canal from Carnforth to Lancaster which is a flat lovely walk of about 9 miles. The pub had some nice local beers and although we didnt eat at the pub it had an interesting menu of local produce. The pub had a lovely homely feel with a nice outside area... More

Amazing!! Lovely setting, lovely landlady, delicious food! Two of us had the hot pot, one had the venison cobbler, one had fisherman's platter. Every meal was lovely. Would have like to work through the whole extensive menu. History of pub in menu was nice touch. Loved reading about a pub which such a rich history.

A lovely historic old coaching inn serving delicious freshly cooked food. Extremely friendly helpful staff. We had to wait a while for our food but the waitress explained that everything was cooked from fresh and it worth the wait when it arrived. There was a good choice on the standard menu and also some chefs specials. I really enjoyed reading... More

5 of us went for a family lunch today. 4 chose the Sunday roast, 2 for the lamb and 2 chose the beef. The other person really enjoyed the beef chilli with a portion of hand cut chips. The roast meet portions were generous and served with only 2 small roast potatoes and 2 small new potatoes. There was plenty... More

We have eaten here twice in the last month or so. I had a lock keepers platter which was large enough to share and had lovely ham and pickles on it. They also do good homemade soup. We also had dinner one night which was also good, we had a steak, gammon and the pork mixed grill which was huge-... More

Lovely historic pub with an extensive menu. Having visited Morecambe we could only have fish and chips which were delicious. Lots of locals present which speaks volumes about the place. The staff were helpful and friendly. Lovely location. Only criticism was the parking!

Have a lovely meal. Was v busy when arrived. Needs to decide is it a pub or a restaurant. E.g. Order at bar or table service, food was nice, unsure why serve a huge gammon on top of the chips , hence making them soggy , nachos n chilly need more chilly. Great fun kids menu.

Probably the best pub/restaurant in the area, very friendly and obliging new managers. Had numerous meals at the Hest Bank and never been disappointed , the BBQ Chicken dish is probably my favourite.

We've found this a friendly pub under its new management and love it that our dog is welcome. Its setting with the canal running past its garden yet with a view of the Bay is impossibly English. The historic building itself is a delight, with several different human-scale drinking and eating areas and real fires. Plenty of local people patronising... More
