The food was good. But the house was better. Order the set menu if you go for lunch. You get a better deal than ordering a la carte, which can be pricey.

Good food/modest portions at lunch time (haven't had dinner). Nice relaxed atmosphere, served by friendly staff.

The food was first class and beautifully presented. We forewent the tasting menu in favour of a la carte with its tempting choices - which did not disappoint. With some of us wanting a white and another red, there were plenty of excellent wines available...More

Quiet, refined atmosphere, a spare yet sumptuous menu, including a fantastic 7-course tasting menu and truly excellent service. The dishes were uniformly excellent, with surprising combinations of tastes that were a revelation. The miso mustard that accompanied the Wiltshire beef will live long in the...More

We tried to visit this pub a couple of weeks ago but the doors were locked and it was empty. A shame because the location is great and it's such a nice building.

Families with children should avoid this place. I wanted to book a table for a big family lunch well 4 months in advance and visited the restaurant. When I asked to be seated at a table of my choice I was told there was an...More

I've only visited once. The food was undeniably delicious but the price tag was big. Given I have not returned I suspect I've decided the cost benefit analysis has not worked out! But if you're happy to just splash the cash then you won't be...More

The Dysart is a superior restaurant with a an ambience that is unmatched nearby. Each table has a huge amount of space which contributes to a relaxed atmosphere. When we visited for dinner there was a pianist playing charming tunes. The Dysart seems able to...More

Set menu has small portions, odd combinations that do not always work. My main course pork was served lukewarm on a bed of lentils. We were offered extra soda bread by the waitress but charged for the second portion. Good cocktails to start and a...More

Train from Waterloo to Richmond. Then a short taxi ride (or a nice walk by the river).

Description
The Dysart Petersham is family owned and run. Everything about The Dysart Petersham, its initial restoration, approach to food, drinks and service, commitment to quality ingredients and responsible sourcing, concern for tradition, garden, is driven by a guiding family view and firmly rooted in the shared values of Manager, Barny Taylor, and classically trained Head Chef, Kenneth Culhane. Both are constantly inspired and re-invigorated by our beautiful, country, surroundings in this village and the changes it sees through the seasons. They are supported by a wider team, front of house and behind the scenes in the kitchen and by gardener and forager, bringing delights to us at unexpected moments. Both love the moment when new ingredients arrive each day, freshly gathered to influence the dishes. Together, the team is passionate about food and wine, sensitive to the increasing need, understood naturally in earlier years better connected with nature, for ethical treatment and welfare of animals, thoughtful and natural cultivation of plants, the value of old varieties and breeds, the richness that wild herbs, flowers and plants add and the wise use of resources. Both are keen communicators. Both want to make guests happy. Barny is never happier than when showing our nature board, explaining the ingredients, the flavour balances, the cooking methods, sourcing and traditions to those who want to listen - and why a particular wine is so good with them, often a surprising wine, but has the sensitivity from experience to know when guests simply want to enjoy the company, the food, the wine, the hospitality - the occasion.
