Went with friends to this restaurant last evening for dinner, a Thursday night, not the most exciting of the week. However, that changed with dinner at the Hole in the Wall. The ambience was remarkably comfortable, the service was light touched, personal and delightful and the food exquisite. 2 of us had pig head nuggets (What?!) and 2 the soup.... More

Four of us ate there last night. We've been a few times before but not for a few years. It just gets better, On Saturdays they only do the tasting menu which suited is fine. From lovage soup to the poached apple cake, there really was not a dud note. Will return.

Tasting menu and flight of wines. Diappointed with the food, didn't understabd the risotto at all, and the matching wine for that course was awful. Sadly won't be going again. £400 for four! wish we hadn't bothered. The staff started laying tables for the next days servce while we were still eating PLEASE!!!!

We went for lunch. The fires were not lit on a cold and grey day and the place felt a little gloomy. The starters were average but the mains disappointing..really rather plain and not well presented. The desserts were very good and we all enjoyed them. As time progressed it got colder and colder ...we left without coffee as it... More

Visited last night for my fiancé 50th birthday treat - we were greeted at the bar and immediately made to feel welcome. We were served drinks and we seated in the lounge area - the fire made it feel warm and cosy. We were then taken through to the second room for eating. The tables are set out so you... More

Been here a couple of times for lunch and have enjoyed both. The menu generally has something for everyone (including good veggie options) and decent portion sizes (i.e. so you can just squeeze in three courses - be rude not to). The ginger and mascarpone cheesecake was superb. The welcome was excellent - we were made to feel at home... More

18 months since our last visit, the welcome was friendly and efficient. The lounge area is relaxed with a log burner. We had the opportunity to look through menus in the lounge before being taken through to the restaurant when our table was ready. We were a party of six and we all thoroughly enjoyed the tasters that were brought... More

This restaurant has bags of charm, great service and wonderful food. It's setting is quiet and rural with open fires greeting you as you enter and lots of country style. Plan ahead to book so as not to be disappointed.

We wished to celebrate our son and his girlfriend's engagement with a special meal. We had received good reports about the Hole in the Wall so booked a table on a Saturday evening to try the tasting menu. We were asked to arrive early at 6.45pm as the restaurant we were informed was fully booked. On arrival we were greeted... More

This pub is more of a restaurant. The menu was wonderful - varied and really interesting. The wine was excellent. Service was good, although perhaps not as sharp as the food. I would say that you go there for the food - not the atmosphere, which was rather subdued, but it didn't stop me and my sister in law from... More
