Wow! We were recommended here by our hotel nearby and it certainly lived up to expectations. Traditions need to be preserved by celebrating them and this place does that throughout - setting, service, method of cooking & local fresh food. We were the only customers unfortunately but it is obviously a popular place. They showed us how they cook on... More

We had a fantastic meal this weeked and the Basterri Maitea, a beautiful restaurant only known by locals and with award winnig meat for meat lovers. The eating room is beautiful and we were seated next to the fire place, very nice! The outside gardens are large and nicelly kept, great for an after dinner digestive, events, or eating out... More

A bit dusty, and old, very quaint, and without customers. We enjoyed the food and the rustic grounds/building, but for the lack of other people. A bit pricey!

We loved this place. Near Guernika, this is a beautiful traditional farm building converted to a great beamed dining room and function room. We had the tasting menu (€55 including a bottle of wine between 2) which had traditional octopus, inventive spider crab soup, sublime steak and delightful pudding all wrapped up with a great bottle of Crianza. Clearly the... More

This restaurant will not dissapoint you. In my opinion it maybe one of the best -if not the best- restaurants in the Basque Country among those without without a Michelin star (and definitely better than others which do have a star). The building is an incredibly well kept, very old traditional Basque farm (a so called "baserri") in a mountain... More

This was a unique experience that I recommend to everyone! A bit hard to find in the dark, but well worth the trouble. The restaurant opened just for our 13 persons' team, and we had a great dinner with both fish, meat and 3 deserts!!! Good wine too!

My wife and I stumbled on Baserri Maitea while planning a day trip up from Bilbao to Guernica. We wanted it to be our one "special meal" on a trip through northern Spain, and it truly was. We went for lunch (around 2pm) selected one of the prix fixe menus. Every course was fantastic. The seafood was fresh, rich, and... More

This restaurant is literally at the end of a dirt drive off the end of a narrow lane which is up a winding road off of a secondary road (but all well marked and quite safe). It literally is a 400 year old farmhouse and barn which was converted to a restaurant about 25 years ago. The surrounding garden is... More

Incredible quality food set in a fantastic caserío with a very nice garden. Incredible setting and very relaxed. Don't forget taking a walk arround after lunch.

We came to Baserri Maitea looking for a good restaurant during a 4 week holiday (2 weeks in Spain + 2 weeks in southern France). What we found was an excellent restaurant with fantastic food that was so reasonably priced it should be considered outstanding value for money. The food was excellent. This is not a Michelin star experience, it's... More
