The food here was exceptionally delicious with modem and traditional offerings, including slow cooked methods . The spaghetti with sea urchin, the slow cooked boar, the rabbit with pasta and the local salami were all amazing dishes. The menus were in English and the owner was very helpful in explaining specialties. Strongly recommend!

This restaurant serves as a self-service diner, you take a tray and then choose your meal from the various dishes on display. The service is fast and there are plenty of seats inside. They also have gluten free dishes upon request. We had lunch and ordered gluten-free gnocchi with tomatoe sauce and they were freshly cooked. The prices are within... More

It's not bad and not good. I had lunch there with wild boar and a cheese plate. The boar was too salty, the cheese however was very good. But in general the place seemed uninspired and service impersonal. No desire to come back.

The food and wine in this charming little restaurant were great and the service was even better--the owner and our waiter couldn't have been nicer. We made a reservation because we had read how popular the restaurant is and we were very glad we did because the restaurant was filled with Italians. I highly recommend La Vecchia Lira.

The restaurant is on the main streat of Volterra and offers local dishes. The self service system helps you to have only a short lunch break, but at the same time you can have a seat and eat quietly. You have a choice of primos (pasta dishes) and secondos (meat) with sidedishes. The quality proce ratio is good.

Our hotel, the Albergo Etruria, suggested we try La Vecchia Lira for lunch. We enjoyed their cafeteria style lunch options and could easily see that many locals like to come here too. The manager and staff were friendly, spoke English and the prices were reasonable. We also had dinner there, which is by menu order only (no lunch cafeteria style... More

We've been to La vecchia Lira for dinner. We didn't book a table so we left our names and came back about 40 minutes later and i'm glad we did. We had some house wine and a main (i had a steak with potatoes, and i must say that the meat was really good). Staff members were also really nice.... More

Though it might appear like a delicatessen from the street, this is a really nice restaurant with tables in the back. The menu is very creative, utilizing a lot of local ingredients in both unique and traditional ways. The pasta of the day was a fabulous play on fresh local mushrooms when we visited. Presentation and taste of the dishes... More

We went for dinner. This late in the season or at least early in the week, we had no trouble getting in. The good was wonderful. You can eat for a reasonable price or be at the top end, depending what you order. I has the volterran vegetable soup for 6.50 euro...and it's a meal in itself! Partner had mussels...totally... We were only in Volterra for 2 nights and couldn't get into this restaurant on the first evening (I had read about it on Tripadvisor and so was keen to go there) so we booked for the second evening and it was well worth it. I had the seafood gnocchi which was delicious and my partner had the wild boar... More
