Good old trip advisor and a restaurant full of French people. First night of the holiday, first meal of the holiday and les halles didn’t disappoint. We didn’t book but you probably should to be on the safe side. Appeared to Be local and tourist...customers and the pictures on the wall hinted at the well renowned status of this place. Great decor, great service awesome food.More
We have been eating at Les Halles for c. 14 years and have never been disappointed. A warm welcome always from Franck and his team, and a very imaginative, enjoyable and good value prix fixe menu. Good wines by the glass and lovely draught beer...too. We unreservedly recommend.More
We reserved a table and got well attended during our dinner. Not to much or to little. A rather small restaurant with, what we think was an engaged manager/owner. I had the cider long cooked pork and it was very nice. As usual, in France,...there are several wines to choose from. We had a nice evening.More
Every dish is delicious you don't have the view on the seaside but you pay to have a wonderful meal and the cook lady will surprise you as far as you cannot imagine if you see a dessert that appeals to you order it at...the beginning of your order they are being eaten to fast that you could be disappointed you can't have one ,they are just amazing an taste that you will never forget ; high level desserts and the rest is at the top !! Go and enjoy !More
Choice of venues are limited on Mondays, so to find Les Halles open was a great relief. Still serving seasonal dishes, well cooked and ambiance added by the locals.
Good meal and good service. Children’s menu with salmon was appreciated. Our eldest had the Camembert burger which was really good... and we enjoyed the choucroute de la mer
Nearly always go for the menu formule which is good value & very seasonal. It is better when Franck on hand as host
Les Halles is a French restaurant of quite some character, which, for this reason as well as its food, should not be missed if you are visiting Houlgate. It has a cheerful traditional style and a warm atmosphere, as well as a broad menu with...an emphasis on French dishes. A choice of set menus are on offer, which are good value, although we found it rewarding to delve further into the a la carte - both the pork fillet and kidneys a la financier are very good - whilst the mussels menu makes for a cracking lunch. We enjoyed both lunch and dinner here in September: both were very good indeed. Strongly recommended and very well worth the two minute walk from Houlgate's main street.More
We had a perfectly cooked sole meunière and some gamba’s. Unfortunately these were cooked to hard/long and were too dry. The steak tartare was very nice with all the required ingredients on the site. We certainly can recommended this place.
Les Halles is slightly more upmarket than other tourist-leaning restaurants. That’s probably reflected in the prices but the extra expensive is definitely worth it. I had moules mariniere with frites. Absolutely delicious with the frites especially nice. Mrs Badger had the creamy and succulent chicken...Normandy. The kids menu also steers away from staples like nuggets etc and serves proper food. Highly recommended.More
This was the second time we had dinner at Les Halles. The staff is very friendly and the service is very fast, even though they work with fresh products and every meal is made from scratch. The prices are very fair (€14-18 for a main...course) and the food is nothing short of delicious. We would definitely go back if we ever visit Houlgate again!More
I was worried that in Houlgate on a Saturday evening in June that every restaurant would be touristy just serving moules and galettes. Les Halles avoids this trap. I enjoyed my innovative fishy starter and my kidneys, although they weren’t as ‘rose’ as I’d hoped....I took a chance on the dessert and asked the waiter what he would chose. The resulting rice pudding was lovely.More
Franck still fronting this slick operation. Nicely evolving menu which has seasonal changes and a great 18.90 euro table d'hote menu (3 courses) and also a useful lunch Express menu. Definitely the best in Houlgate.
So good we went back for more. Excellent choice and great menu for children too. Friendly staff. Great wine.
