A beautiful and charming 15th Century pub, perfectly situated on the A1120 tourist road en-route to the famous Suffolk coast. We have a large beer garden to the side which overlooks the bowling green, and further seating to the front. With ample car parking space, it’s the ideal spot for a drink or a meal on your way to or from the coast. The newly refurbished kitchen serves fabulous home-cooked food, freshly made to order, using the best of Suffolk produce. You can choose from a variety of draft lagers, ales and ciders as well as a range of fine wines. On colder days you can enjoy them in the warmth of the pub surrounded by crackling open fires. We arrived after a long cycle as p looked forward to relaxing over a pint and some food. We weren’t disappointed,my husband had the signature burger that was juicy & delicious, the chips were homemade & cooked to perfection. I chose the ploughman’s that was huge...& tasty. The staff were friendly and the location was perfect (although there are roadworks outside) The weather was perfect for a April day, warm, dry & calm.More

We were fortunate enough to stay a couple of nights in the gorgeous marina Shepard hut. From start to finish it was a wonderful get away. The service through-out was welcoming and friendly! The hut itself was amazing the shower is exceptional, bed extremely comfy...and surprising the place was extremely cosy! We were lucky enough to use the hot tub which was perfect surrounded by a beautiful well put together garden. I would fully recommend to anyone wanting a quiet break away, which is also close to southwold. We will definitely be returning!More

I stayed here back in October with my partner and I can not speaking highly enough of the restaurant, staff, food and the lodges! Upon arrival the lodge was clean and tidy, there is everything that you need to get by for a nice few...days here. The images online do not do the lodges any justice! They aren't very big (as expected) but they have everything you need and more to have a great time away here, as well as being well decorate and extremely clean. The staff are very friendly and couldn't do enough for the pair of us, they helped us settle in by showing us the ropes and giving us some information on whats around locally. The food served in the restaurant was also of a high standard. After taking our food order the food arrived within ten mins - I was getting ready for a luke-warm mediocre meal but that wasn't the case!! There was loads of food of my plate and it was all piping hot and tasted amazing - I couldn't believe how enjoyable the meal was despite the order going in less than ten mins before. I tip my hat to the chef there. We had the hot tub to ourselves and enjoy watching the sunrise in the morning in the garden firepit/patio area. I proposed to my partner whilst we was there and the staff gave us a drink on the house and the morning staff wished us congratulations the following morning - there is a really nice family feel about staying at The White Horse! To summarise; the venue is great for a quiet break, the lodges are kept amazing with all the facilities you need, the staff are friendly and knowledgeable about the local area and the food is great too! I couldn't pick a single fault with my stay. Apologies that it's taken me 2 months to write this review but I can't wait to come back 2021.More

Visited the pub last night for a girls catch up and wasn’t disappointed. We had a lovely oval table near the fire. The staff were very attentive. Food was amazing. We shared a few Camembert platters to start, which was a delight. I chose the...steak and kidney suet pudding, which was amazing. The portions are huge which is always a bonus. Friends had lasanaga, salmon, fajita to name a few and all said they tasted lovely. Dessert was the only let down. I ordered the Eton Mess which was crushed to within an inch of its life and the berries were frozen.... but that’s me being really picky. Don’t let that stop you visiting. The Sunday menu looked amazing on the board and was pretty cheap. We cannot wait to book and go back and eat my way through the menu 😍 The specials board was pretty impressive too.More

After our first visit back in July, we returned as promised, when next in the area. Had another lovely lunch, this time indoors. C19 arrangements rigorous and the food is still amazing. Hubby had the chicken fajitas and I had the fish pie. Fantastic. When...next passing we will be back - promise!More

Just comeback from the perfect weekend spent in Marina shepherd hut in the grounds of this fabulous pub. When we first arrived, we were welcomed with a smile from a barman and he showed us to the hut and where things were in the hut...and then the surprise which isn't mentioned on the website the hot tub! It was my husband birthday and there was a bottle of prosecco and a cupcake and candle on the side for him (nice thoughtful gesture). We settled quickly and returned for our evening meal at the pub. We were seated quickly and the drinks ordered. We ordered the camembert to share to start and then hubby had the 12oz Rump steak! Wowzers! I had the whole tail scampi and it was delicious. Big portions but enough room to squeeze in 2 scoops of ice cream (lemon curd and honeycomb!) Again, this didn't disappoint. We were asked if we wanted to book breakfast in the morning for £10.50 each. We accepted. A comfy night sleep and woke up to return for breakfast... wow, what a feast! Cereals, fruit, yoghurt, pastries, juices on the bar to help yourself and then Lisa would serve you tea and coffee and ask what you would like from the menu... hubby had full English and I had the eggs royal.. we started to eat this and out come some more toast (different types of bread). We spent the day seeing the sites and can recommend a stroll along the beach at Southwold to blow your cobwebs and walk the breakfast off.. then we went to Framlingham Castle and to Shawsgate Vineyard where we purchased a couple of bottles of English wine! Back to the hut for round 2 of dinner! We decided on Deep Fried Brie wedges for hubby and the Goat cheese and beetroot salad for me. Hubby was torn between lamb shank and the rump but again decided on the rump. I had fish pie and deserts we had Eton mess and lemon meringue Sundae 🍨 was immense.. hubby doesn't like the whipped cream so we asked to change it for ice cream and the waitress said it was possible. Overall, this place is impeccable, from the drive into the car park, the fresh warm welcome, the surprise of a hot tub, the gorgeous fresh tasty food and plenty of it to the owners Lisa and Mark who couldn't do enough for you... Thank you for an awesome weekend. As we said to you, you need to apply to the Channel 4 show Four In A Bed. It is that good! It amazes me how some people are so negative about this place.. we simply couldn't find fault with it. Our friends recommended this little gem of a place to us and we feel it deserves all the credit and support from near and far.... We will be back!More

We ate here in early October 2020 as we were staying a few miles down the road and had been recommended to come here. We were booked for dinner at 7pm so arrived and left in the dark and couldn't see much of the outside...but it looked very cosy and welcoming inside. It's a traditional pub so has warmth and individuality (pub and staff) rather than the "corporate look". Our food and drink (wine and beer) were really good and at a reasonable price! If I were to come back this way it's the first place I'd choose to go!More

Unfortunately our meals were not up to the standard expected. The sausages were overcooked (I suspect they had been left in the oven), the rice was undercooked. When the waitress was made aware of this her comment was that she 'didn't need that at this...time of night'. The time was about 8pm. She then added that she would take it off the bill. I quite realise that the pub was very busy but more tact was needed for us paying customers. Needless to say we will not be returning.More

We stayed Wednesday to Friday in one of the shepherds huts. Beautifully fitted kitchen and bathroom. Underfloor heating and log burner. Bed was comfortable with fitted wardrobe and cupboards. Only thing we would of found useful as the weather had changed would be a small...table and chairs inside - there’s plenty of room for this! We did mention to landlady and note was made. Also as the weather had changed a door mat would be a good thing too. Outside had table and chairs for 2 and a commercial area to share with other holiday makers which has a hot tub, shower and BBQ, table and chairs. All very well put together! We ate in the pub on Thursday evening and the food and service was great. Thank you for a lovely few days.More
