Picturesque atmosphere that gives you the impression you just stepped into a Brothers Grimm fairy-tale; also, believe you me, it cannot get more Bavarian traditional as this. Also, great Service and good Location. Not a big fan of Beer, but the Dark One (Bock-Bier) is not too shabby. Just make sure you do NOT arrive (like silly me) between 2... More

The Beer is fantastic! The beer garden is comfortable and quiet considering it is in the middle of a city. Go inside the beer stube and see its old age history. It is beautiful. Eat here, prices are reasonable, be happy!

This is a very local brewery, in a very local neighborhood. We stayed at the hotel next to here, so we could dine here at night. The beergarden was fabulous, but you must have reservations (we emailed them months in advance). The diners were all locals, and the setting was very relaxed. The service was good. The food was absolutely... More

Traditional Franconian restaurant offering a cosy atmosphere and friendly staff. Beer was wonderfully tasty and brewed on site and food was the best we had during our break. The pork knuckle hit my husband´s spot and the rest of the party were very happy with their choices. It is all quite meaty but that is the regional cuisine for you.... More

A friend told us about this place and it did not disappoint. Great beer, great atmosphere. The dinner menu is much better than the lunch menu, I am quite sad I was unable to order off of the dinner menu. It was crowded so finding a seat can be difficult. Overall, good spot to have a beer or two.

I love Schlenkerla & Spezial with their Rauch (smoked beers) in Bamberg. But Mahrs is a little star. The Brewery is not in the old town but has been brewing since the 17th century. The beers are fresh and the wonderful Franconian the styles of Hell , Pils , Zwickl and Weizen. The room in the main bar is small... More

It's all good. The beer, the food and the atmosphere. During the summer you can sit in the beer garden, winter inside. Space is limited, but if you can get in you won't be disappointed!

My husband and I walked here for dinner one night - it was a good twenty minutes but foot from where we stayed, but well lit and nice along the river. First, the beer is worth the visit, but you will find this brewery served in other spots around town (Altenburg). What we liked best was that it was more... More

Great beer and a fascinating rustic interior. Friendly staff, worth the visit. The food however was a great disappointment. The famed Bamberg onion was nothing more than a lump of sausage meat in half a hollow onion. The meat loaf had nothing to offer in texture or taste. A review as a brewery tap would be different to a restaurant... More

Tradition and craftsmanship – for us, these are not just selling points, and most definitely not myth. We are a family owned and operated business, run with conviction and passion for over four generations. We’ve been doing it simply for the sheer pleasure and enjoyment of our work. And because we have a very specific idea of what an outstanding beer must have: Character.

We leave the cheap beer to the mass production industry. We don’t get bent out of shape over producing a few more hectoliters. On the contrary, we are a proud, yet not sooo small, private brewery in Upper Franconia. For centuries we have been calling Bamberg’s Wunderburg our home. Family-owned and firmly rooted in the region since 1895. Then, as now, committed to the Bavarian Purity Law of 1516. We enjoy our success, but always remain fully aware of our responsibility.

brauereiWe work with confidence in our age-old craft, and can therefore keep a clear head for the present. We are inquisitive and move forward with new ideas for the future. Because, when it’s all said and done, pairing the art of our brewing tradition with the sophistication modern technology (along with the occasional surprise) you can truly taste the difference in each of our nine Mahr’s beers.
