We were a little late - perhaps we misunderstood that they only take reservations at 18 and 20.00. Still, we were given a table and promised to finish before 8pm. This was not a problem, but the service was efficient at best, definitely not friendly....The food was not served in a professional manner and it was extremely salty. Nothing special. We have definitely eaten in nicer restaurants. Shame as it did come highly recommended. Maybe we hit a bad night.More
Maybe the best schnitzel I ever have tasted. But difficult to communicate with the waitress who couldn’t talk English. The place was also very busy and the service was not that great.
Oh my goodness! Best food in Germany. Had the Scharge Nudeln - spicy spaghetti with vegetables, king prawns and spits of chicken breast. So so good. Just the perfect amount of spice and flavor. Have to learn to make it at home. Staff was great.Tthey...hussled. We also had desserts there. Apple Strudel was a bit of heaven in the mouth. YUM!! It was covered in a creamy vanilla sauce. Can't wait to return someday soon.More
Good food, the stuff you would expect, schnitzels, game stew etc. A selection of nice German beer and wine. A friendly waitress in dirndl, lot of wood and low ceilings. This place is very popular with tourists and locals. Reservation is a must.
A wonderful place to dine or have lunch; when entering the restaurant the furniture immediately gives you that 'Allgäu' feeling. Staff dressed in traditional clothes is like the icing on the cake. But of course let's not forget the food: regional food plus the classics...like schnitzels are presented wonderful and taste accordingly. Be aware that you normally have to make reservations for Altstaufner Einkehr, the best restaurant in Oberstaufen.More
If you only can visit one restaurant in Oberstaufen, this is the one. Everything we tried was perfect - and has been for many years. They are also very flexible in making suggestions for kids and most dishes can be ordered in smaller portions as...well. The friendliness of the staff today was extraordinaire. Enjoy!More
After basically everyone we met during our first day in Oberstaufen recommended this place, we decided to go there a bit unsure as people said it was "really casual". The place is typically south German in its deco, and the food was simply delicious. The...service fast and friendly and all in all very good value for money too. We will come back even though only staying for a week in the area.More
Charming local restaurant with an English menu. The food was outstanding. Hubby and I both had the s weiner schnitzel, which was delicious. Best I have ever eaten. I don't like potato salad, and the server was glad to change the side to speatzle, which...was outstanding. Beer was our drink of choice. Don't flinch when the schnitzel is served with lemon-use it, and the accompanying jelly is great. Don't miss this charming, affordable restaurant.More
I have enjoyed Altstaufner Einkehr for years and continue to visit every time I'm in Oberstaufen. Miche is a fantastic host who insures that each meal is of the highest quality. Dining there is a unique experience which can't be duplicated.
We heard about this place in conversation and it didn't disappoint. Honestly, I love steak and this place had one of the best I've ever had. The service in this place saved our short restaurant experience in Bavaria. There was finally an English menu and...our waitress was wonderful. We got there around 5:30 and by the time we left the place was packed. Make sure you have a reservation if you plan on going after 6:00. Also, the apple fritters are simply heavenly! Highly recommended Bavarian gem!More
We went there without a reservation and just got the last table. We ordered a local wine (OK), Wiener schnitzel (excellent) and pork medallions (excellent). We both also ordered potato salad and fried onions (again both excellent). The presentation was outstanding. The greeting was friendly...and we were immediately recognised as British, spoken to in English and given an English menu, although the specials were only in German which our host translated for us. The atmosphere inside is of a traditional Bavarian restaurant (a very busy one!) and remember it only opens at 5pm and is closed on a Monday. We will return for one of the best meals we've had for a while.More
Wanted to spend the evening in a traditional bavarian restaurant and found it.service quick and efficient..the food...not the biggest menue but who needs that, if the choices are great.the veal schitzel was far out the best I had for years....would recommend it any minute
We had a great meal here- 250g steak with pepper sauce. Very tasty steak indead with a good sauce and loads of veg. We had a separate dish of a mountain of chips which were the thin sort ie all crisp and no insides. The...service was good and I had a raspberry tiramisu which was lovely.More
Food with delicate taste traditional, professional service and cheerful ambience. I had no reservation but they did their best and solved
