Thank you Guesthouse-Vineyard Stahl for a wonderful visit! The food was so delicious, made with obvious care. We enjoyed tasting the various wines with our dinner, and Paul, the sixth generation proprietor, invited us to check out the wine cellar late in the evening. We...took a couple bottles home because it was so delicious. The guesthouse itself is absolutely charming, while also maintaining snappy WiFi which was helpful for booking our onward train and river cruise tickets. The next day we stuffed ourselves at the abundant breakfast buffet and our kids were positively spoiled by the proprietor’s aunt who made sure they had everything they could have possibly wanted... waffles anyone? We walked through the vineyards to the castle overlooking the the town and walked into the picturesque town of Oberwesel. We enjoyed a great afternoon coffee and pastry at the local bakery before walking back to the guesthouse. We also bought some homemade jam and local honey for gifts to take back. Overall a very special experience!More
Luckily we found this place for a Saturday family dinner while we were staying in Oberwesel for the weekend. Despite our initial plan to stay at a local restaurant at the centre of the village, we found it fully booked for the evening and had...to change plans, which in the end turned into a fabulous experience at this family business. The service was friendly and attentive. The food was very good, exquisitely prepared and of generous portions. Finally, the Riesling was very tasteful. We ended up with a visit to the cellar and buying more Riesling to take with us. Looking forward to the next visit.More
I found this restaurant/hotel whilst staying near Oberwesel, and it was well worth the drive. Although the restaurant was fairly full when I arrived (unbooked) the proprietor personally found me a table and checked two or three times that 'all was well' through the evening...(in excellent English).
Stahl is actually in Dellhofen, a small village above the Rhine on a narrow and twisty country road. I had a very good roasted lamb meal, followed by a 'trio of chocolate' dessert, washed down with an excellent locally-produced red wine. And at a very reasonable price for a good-quality establishment.More
We stayed here in May 2017 for three days and the location and the service especially at the included breakfast is the best around.
We stopped for dinner when we were in the area again in September 2017 with friends, and the evening meal was...bountiful and the service again was extra special.
If you are looking for wine there is a cellar where you can try the wines before you buy.
Check out Weingut Stahl, you won't be disappointed.More
If you aren't able to stay at the Gasthaus Stahl, then you at least need to visit for dinner. The chef is masterfully trained and delivers unbelievably fresh, tasty and authentic German food. They have their own farm and many of the dishes are 100%...home grown via their own produce and livestock. The prices are extremely reasonable and the service impeccable yet still friendly. Since the village is a trek up a large hill from the Rhine, I would recommend driving or grabbing a taxi. We've eaten at many fancy and Michelin rated restaurants, but there is something about having an excellent meal without pretentiousness and at an extremely reasonable price. Go visit and try it--you'll want to return!More
We ate here while we were staying at the Gastehaus Weingut Stahl. We had a large party of 9 people, multi-generational. This family-run restaurant has delicious food. We ate on the outdoor patio-- a perfect place to while away a summer evening. For non-drinkers, they...had a house-made grape juice (from the grapes of their vineyard) that was to die for.More
Stahl prides themselves on being a family-run establishment with locally-sourced meat and game. Both of these aspects were impressive and worth the three-star rating the hotel and restaurant have earned. The food was fantastic!! The crowd seemed to be both travelers and locals, and the...service was great.More
