Popped into this cafe on 19/6 in the afternoon as not many places open, initially things were good, service ok, drinks were nice and so was the cake we ate. What let it all down was at the end when the man came for payment,...my wife dropped the bill due to the wind, but when she gave him a note in payment it was snatched out of her hand very abruptly in a manner that conveyed a lack of patience and annoyance at being kept waiting. A lacking in basic customer service skills we found with some Germans we encountered during our holiday which is a shame as the majority were very good, unfortunately there seems to be nothing in between excellent service and abrupt, impatient poor service.More
Cafe Bonsch is not only a Café, but also a small Bed & Breakfast for travelers (in particular those traveling via bicycle) wandering along the Rhine river.
We booked our room via telephone, where my bike riding companion chatted with not only the owner but...his wife, and both were very polite and accommodating for our stay in their Guesthouse. Upon arrival we were immediately shown the ropes, and shown where we could leave our bikes for the night (inside, at the back of the Cafe).
The room was cozy, just right for the two of us. The beds were just right, and we slept very well.
The bathroom was wonderful, and very clean. Towels and soap were provided. As well as a bottle of water and chocolates in the room (on the house).
The only issue that we had was with the sound of Mac Trucks driving through the town in the middle of the night... as our room was right on the main street. Nevertheless, it was a good night and nice stay.
There was also breakfast included in the price of the room (one double bed - two mattresses, one bed), which was 80 Euros for night. The breakfast was delightful. We went downstairs and sat at a table of our choice, were there was already a bread basket set out with two sets of five different breads. Upon sitting down, we were brought orange juice, a small pot of a coffee each, a plate with meat and a plate with cheese, a freshly boiled egg and home made jams and jellys. It was really a great breakfast. To top it off, there were two 'take away' bags provided on the table, so that we could make ourselves a sandwich with the bread/meats/cheeses provided for the rest of our trip (and the owner of the Cafe even highly suggested it... then he wouldn't have as much waste).
It was all in all a great stay.
Unfortunately we never tried anything from the Cafe itself, but everything with regards to our stay in the guest house was just delightful and just right for two tired bike riders.More
