Great surroundings however welcome not as impressive and food average. Maybe a off night. Had fish and chips mushy peas and tartare sauce. Over £12 but frozen chips. Was going to have desert but selection turned out not to be available. No one asked if we had had a good evening. Shame as we have just moved to the village... More

We enjoyed a fantastic meal which was cooked to perfection and beautifully presented. We weren't rushed yet the service was attentive and polite. The sea bass was just delicious and the steak with blue cheese sauce excellent. Lovely evening spent in great surroundings.

We visited for a family meal and had a very warm welcome. All staff were very friendly and the food was fine, good range on the kids menu. We were able to sit in the conservatory area with our dogs.

We had a great meal, very nicely presented, tasted good. Only thing that was a tad disappointing was the Tiramisu Cheesecake which lacked flavour, no coffee taste at all, the sponge fingers were really dry... wonder if they forgot to dip them in coffee ? The new decor is so much better, and the new layout a great improvement. Overall... More

I visited The Cockhaven with my husband and family for dinner. We had a lovely evening, delicious food, friendly service and it was nice and cosy on a winters evening. The refurb has really improved the place, it looks great.

This is our local restaurant and I'm glad it is. There is a good extensive menu with something for everyone. There is a good choice of ales as well as a good wine list which isn't overpriced in my opinion. I had an excellent fish starter followed by a very well cooked blue steak. The menu isn't overpriced and an... More

Friends has said you had a new refit/team and the food had dramatically improved, so thought we would give you another chance! A much cosier and friendlier pub than our last visit, food was great and dog friendly - well done Cockhaven much better, see you again very soon!

Description
Now re-opened following extensive renovations. We have extended and developed a lovely bar and restaurant with open log fires and an intimate and cosy atmosphere which is ideal for informal eating and drinking. The new décor, lighting and the mixture of solid oak flooring, stone slabs and carpeted areas gives a friendly homely feel. The ever popular conservatory has been refurbished and is now more integrated with the bar area. We have also created 'The Wardroom' which offers a more intimate dining room for private parties and for our guests. Upstairs, the elegant landing has been sympathetically redecorated, whilst all the rooms have been extensively refurbished, some of the bedrooms have also been re-configured to create individually styled but contemporary suites, family rooms and double rooms. The changes do not stop with the building. A new Spring Menu features freshly prepared dishes, from pub favourites through to new creations reflecting contemporary English cuisine. As before, there is an extensive vegetarian selection and of course a specials board which changes daily. To go with this is a new Wine List (with over a dozen available by the glass), created by Tanners Independent Wine Merchants, local ales from Otter Brewery, as well as a leading range of other draught lagers and cider. Outside, there is a large beer garden with lovely views of the estuary, along with plenty of car parking.
