Went to the Rising Sun for a meal this evening whilst staying in Matlock. What a great find. Really good food and real.....YES REAL....proper homemade chips. Burger night so my chicken and chorizo burger came with a free wine and the wife loved her fish 'n chips (again, proper chips). Great friendly welcome. Definitely recommend

We had what I would call proper pub grub with real ale. We had Lamb and mint pie and chicken, mushroom and bacon pie, both with chips and peas. The pie was of excellent quality with plenty of filling, The chips were proper chips, not of the frozen oven variety. The cost of the pie and chips (or mash f... More

This is a pub design to feed those who come is tiered, wet, muddy and with aches and pains after a long cycle ride or walk. The food is simple but beautifully prepared, tasty, rich and large portions. The venue is not too polished that you feel bad about the muddy boots. Dogs are curled up in front of the... More

Visited on Wed 22nd Feb for tea with family / friends (3 adults and 7 kids). Lovely food, reasonably priced, nice decor, helpful friendly staff. I had steak which was good. One adult had the chicken and chirizo burger which was apparently excellent!

Went for an evening meal for 8 of us - 4 kids aged 5-9. Comfortable (very) dog friendly pub with good parking and a garden. Half a dozen local ales and a reasonably priced food menu with only steaks being over £10 for main dishes. Kids menu available but all adult dishes also available in kids sized portions. Food quality... More

Walking in the Peaks leads you to some lovely pubs, we thought this was one, but appearances are deceptive. Inside looked OK, with a nice selection of cask ales which suited us as we are Camra members. We were greeted by a very grouchy member of bar staff who seemed to be in charge, very unhelpful, obviously preferred her regulars.... More

Ordered fish finger sandwich, the fish was painfully thin......the batter was very thick and greasy and I didnt expect tortilla chips with this dish! Pie crust was burnt and dry, panini was overcooked to the point of being inedible and when did chips have skins on? They were more like hard stodgy potato wedges. Look at why chip shops and... More

On the search for a new place for sunday lunch we tried the Rising Sun. We have been before but not on sunday. We enjoyed our sunday lunch, except the usual problem, the veg. Swede and peas were fine but but carrots were old and woody. Warm welcome, not so expensive and a good atmosphere. So all in all its... More
