We didnt want to go there, but it was recommended by a salesgirl in one of the shops. I am vegetarian so i took fries with cheese (4 euro) and they were huuuuuuge and tasty. A very good lunch we had there! Dont be afraid, just go.

Do not be dissuaded by this food trailer appearing eatery, the fish and chips are unbelievably amazing. And you are only a short walk from an ancient stone circle. Do NOT miss this food if you are in kenmare

I'd been told if I wanted fish and chips while in the area, this was THE place I had to visit, so I did. Firstly let me qualify this by stating that the fish and chips themselves were absolutely superb. All fresh and the fish itself was very meaty, and the batter light and not remotely stodgy. Sadly it wasn't... More

We were shocked to find Whartons fish and chip shop had closed since we had last been to Kenmare as it had always been one of the highlights of our visit (but delighted at how good, 53, the new restaurant there was!). A passer by, seeing our distress told us that Whartons was now in the square operating from a... More

Everything on the menu is very good quality for a chipper van. Only thing is the wait time can be quite long if they're busy.

Used to visit Whartons when they had the shop in Kenmare. Now they have moved into a catering van down at the square. Quality has certainly not changed. Still by far the best Fish n Chips I've had in Kerry. €11 is quite expensive for take away but I'd rather pay a bit more & have really good Fish n... More

I don't normally eat from fish and chip vans but I heard such good things about Whartons I decided to give it a try. The van is absolutely spotless, the staff are really friendly and the fish and chips are gorgeous. The portions are huge so 1 between 2 people would nearly do. I'll definitely be back next time we... It was a sunny early evening and we were just strolling leisurely around The Square when we came across this van. We just couldn't resist having some Fish and Chips as it looked so incredibly clean and smart- there was even a vase of fresh flowers on the counter. We were handed some well presented boxes of fried quality fish... More

Description
"Kenmare, in Co Kerry, has its unfair share of places to eat, but you'll miss one of its finest attractions if you confine yourself to the restaurants that feature in guide books.

Wharton's Traditional Fish & Chips, in the town centre, is a gem. My cod was encased in the finest, lightest batter, into which crushed black peppercorns had been incorporated. It was so fresh I swear I saw it twitch as it hit the oil. The chips are hand-cut from potatoes that are, amazingly, chosen for their "fryability". And they have cider vinegar if you fancy a change from the stuff you usually get in chippers..." Tom Doorley (Irish Times)
