Well it certainly was a different experience. The breakfast was standard all fried meats with coffee and toast included. Nothing continental about it, no croissants or cheeses very much old school. Pleasant staff no issues service was quick and friendly. I went outdoors for a...cigarette before leaving for Dublin bus stop around the corner. I met the owner who is a mixture of a local politician, sports personality and a unofficial Garda representative 😅 she had a very topical conversation about drink driving. It's a very strange if not conservative town Carrick on a week day in comparison to the Saturday night mayhem, I had arrived at the weekend. While we were chatting as luck would have it a Garda patrol van drove past slowly and both occupants did a big waving gesture towards the owner who did a big wave back. So I knew from that exchange why her views were that way, being from Dublin it's sometimes alien to me that naive country in with the local law enforcement. In Dublin business circle's that usually means for favours, control and power usually in that order. Her main client base is from the station she told me around the corner and the court house when it's open. Food was fine, atmosphere was strange conversation a bit eerie outside if I'm to be honest. If small towns could talk Carrick-on-Shannon would be non stop ! Be interesting to know what the other locals think about things. It's made me more curious about the place the town itself and to try another eatery the next visit mid week. Bill was standard country price.More
