Nice pub with good ales but v. average food in dated (restaurant) surroundings. Read the reviews and expected significantly better quality food however all bar one of our party of six was disappointed. If simple fried food/ burgers/pies is what you're looking for then go no further.

My family are regulars given that we always visit when visiting the Lakes. The staff are always a delight. We tend to book and eat in the restaurant as the pub is very popular and can be a bit like a rugby scrum. Good value, wholesome food.

Just had a lovely 2 night stay at the Britannia Inn. It is a very popular pub and hotel and it is easy to see why . Excellent food , pleasant and courteous staff , rooms clean and comfortable, location superb ! We would definitely return . Oh yes Sunday night was " Quiz night " . Free to enter... More

We eat in the bar - worth fighting for a table! The beer is always good with a wide selection of real ales. The food is above average for a pub and reasonably priced. Great atmosphere, lovely and warm, open fire cant wait to return! All this and in Eleterwater - arguably the prettiest place in the Lakes - Love... More

The place is odd it's stuck in the 70's the location is fantastic, service polite, food average at lunchtime. It needs upgrading and a bit more practical furniture. We were told no dogs in the restaurant which is steeped in the past, yet we sat next to a table with a dog under it, odd no one said anything, yet... More

The food is great and the service friendly and quick. We were a little surprised to be asked to pay a 10% surcharge for eating dinner in the restaurant when we were actually resident in the inn but I guess its to cover overheads of some sort? It was made clear it wasn't a tip. I could understand it more... More

Last ate here a few years ago and it was very predictable and pubby. Due to awful weather we decided to pop in here just after the main lunch menu had finished but sandwiches and light meals were available mid afternoon. Everyone in our group found the food fresh and delicious. I had bacon and Brie and this came with... More

A really friendly pub with fantastic food. No better place to be especially when it is cold and wet outside. A real fire, home cooked food (try the soup with a portion of chips) and some interesting local beers.

We booked a table in advance, but no need it was very quite on a wet, cold January evening. Food was good, had fish and chips - nicely light battered fish and excellent chips, much better than the Wainwright down the road. Only issue was them running out of the beer we started drinking, although I can understand this out... More
