Some say that to travel hopefully is better than to arrive. Our journey to the restaurant involved a 90-minute drive in soggy, windy weather; for those not used to driving on single-track roads, this may prove a shock. The car park just beyond the restaurant has adequate space. Stepping into the restaurant was akin to stepping into someone's front room: the restaurant could seat, I estimated, no more than twenty-two diners. The welcome was warm and service prompt. Having made a very good start, the food arrived and our tastebuds soon confirmed that to arrive was well worth while! All three diners in our party enjoyed three excellent courses and we were pleasantly surprised by the bill at the end. The staff were excellent and looked after us faultlessly. Quality of ingredients and taste of the dishes are obviously paramount here. Michelin stars are, rightly, awarded to establishments with a wide range of styles, and I have been fortunate enough to dine at several. The standard of food and service here has certainly merited Loch Bay's first. We'll be back – and we're looking forward to it!

We were fortunate to be staying nearby as the restaurant is in a fairly remote (but beautiful) location. We were lucky to get a cancellation, after adding our names to the wait list a few days in advance. Would highly recommend booking well in advance if you plan to visit! We were pleased to find the restaurant is fairly informal with a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere and we felt thoroughly welcomed by the team when we arrived. The food was outstanding. We'd love to return the next time we visit Skye.

When researching our stay on Stein, we were very keen to secure a reservation here and the very helpful and friendly Graeme kept us informed as to when reservations would be available. We had advised of our dislike of oysters and this was taken into account and omitted from our tasting menu, being replaced by an alternative. Each course was presented beautifully with the highest quality of ingredients and the portion sizes were quite large for a tasting menu. The price is high by anyone's estimations but you can see what you are paying for with the exceptional ingredients. If we had one small criticism this would be that the tract was left in on one of the langoustines in the bisque but we did not draw attention to this. All in all, an outstanding evening of exceptional food and service which we will be certain to revisit if we ever, hopefully, stay in Stein again.

This restaurant has been providing take out meals for the local community during lockdown and will re-open soon. We have had three meals which were superb; Lamb Kofta, Chicken Tagine and Thai Chicken Curry. What a great service to the local community!

Over the moon with our visit to this restaurant! When I sent a booking enquiry 4 months prior, I was told you had to fully pay upfront to confirm the booking which was a little daunting, as it's a significant amount... However, it becomes very clear why that's needed when you arrive, as they're in a very remote location, in a tiny establishment. Any no-shows would certainly be detrimental. The views of the bay outside are absolutely stunning, so I recommend arriving early and sitting outside for a bit if the weather's nice. On arrival we were greeted with a warm welcome, and the host took our coats away and talked us through the menu and drinks. And also gave us a perfect recomendation for a bottle of wine. The first course of aperitifs were a set of 3, and set the bar very high! As each course came through I was more and more impressed with every mouthful! Truly outstanding flavours, impeccable presentation, and more importantly for me (who's a little scared of trying seafood) there was minimal work to be done by way of shells, etc. Our favourites were the "Pot of bay prawns" and the "Lobster, Monk fish & Truffles" dish. Both to die for! Overall would highly recommend, as it's a wonderful experience.

Friendly and careful service during an unhurried meal. From the warm baguette to the last amuse Boucher each of many courses was interesting, beautifully presented and tasted great. I had the wine flight and enjoyed the paired glasses . I thought the meal and wine was value for money, especially when I compare prices with what I paid a few doors away or elsewhere on the island. A hardworking team certainly produce an enjoyable evening.

I booked our table for four 10 weeks in advance, taking a chance that the Covid restrictions would not be re-imposed. This proved to be a sensible move as on our visit we were told that the restaurant was fully booked for the next 4 months. It is easy to see why; we had a wonderful evening and superb food. We felt very welcome and enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere. The restaurant is small and had 5 tables during our visit but can accommodate 7. The décor is pleasant and we were given a window table over-looking the bay. The set menu “Skye Fruits de Mer” consisted on 6 courses of fresh local ingredients all beautifully prepared, cooked and presented. Some of the highlights, which we all enjoyed were, Bay Prawn & Shrimp Bisque with Crab & Mull Cheddar Toasti, Sconser Scallops with Orbost Herbs, Tomato & Saffron (proper sized scallops) and the Cod with Razor Clams & Mussels, Summer Vegetables. However, every course was delicious. I accompanied my meal with the Wine Flight, 5 carefully selected wines to accompany each course. I was very impressed with the quality of these wines (predominately French). If you enjoy a top quality dining experience do not miss a visit to the Loch Bay Restaurant.

I believe that originally a michelin star was given to restaurants that were worth going out of your way to visit. Was Loch Bay worth a 100 mile round trip on dark unfamiliar roads? Definitely! The welcome was warm, the food was superb and the service was seamless and unpretentious. The restaurant was fully book well in advance of our week on Skye, but we were fortunate to get a cancellation. As can be seen on the website there is a standard seafood menu (nothing standard about the quality of the food) and payment is taken at the time of booking. The restaurant is small and cosy in a wonderful lochside location. Parking is easy once you have navigated the single track road leading to Stein. If you enjoy both fine dining and seafood and are able to get a table, don't hesitate, just book and I'm sure like us you will have a great time.

We hadn't been to Lochbay for several years, but managed to grab the last remaining opening during a recent stay on Waternish. The tasting menu was creative, superbly executed and served by an orchestrated team. Our only complaint was it was just too much food. By the last few courses, we were so full it was hard to do them justice. But I would do it all again in a heartbeat. They also had a suggested wine pairing for each course, which we splurged on and were glad we did. An amazing dining experience in the charming village of Stein.

Skye is defined as much by its waters as its mountains. Peninusulars stretch out providing sandy beaches, rocky bays and sheltered coves. It is an environment that is great for shellfish espcially and at Loch Bay Michael Smith is one of the best at showcasing great shellfish on a plate. Covid-19 limits the restuarant to 4 tables and a single fish based menu which walked the diner through all that is wonderful about hte Skye waters. Oyster, langoustine, scallop, crab, lobster and clams all featured alongside a beutiful piece of cod. A wonderful leisurely lunch. No alcholol indoors dure to government restrictions so unable to accompany the food with a nice crisp white or dry champagne but the food sparkled and remains the star of the show at Loch Bay.

We visited Loch Bay recently for my birthday as I love seafood. Ww booked and paid in advance the £140 per person and were looking forward to our visit immensely. Unfortunately we had car trouble on route and had to walk part of the way in freezing weather and this and the worry re car situation (restaurant is very remote) detracted from the experience which is no fault of Loch Bay, in fact they were helpful, booked us a taxi to get us back to our accommodation, gave us the number of a garage etc and offered to help the next day if required so fair play to the staff. The food itself was lovely and fresh. The textures and flavours were very good. Started with bread with smoked crowdie and caviar. Nice way to start. Then came baked oyster and a small dish of what I think was smoked fish soup, lovely anyway. Then came the scallops. One cured in citrus, the other seared to perfection. A delightful dish. Prawn dish followed the scallops and these were also great. Next up cod, clams and mussels. The cod was perfect and the mussels and clams presented in a razor clam shell. Lobster and monkfish was next and again very nice. Desert followed, I chose the sweet but cheese was an option. The tart was delightful. Truffles rounded off an excellent meal where many of my favourite ingredients had been presented in a beautiful and innovative way by the excellent and well thought of chef. Next was the expensive taxi back and worry about how to sort car in morning but overall a very enjoyable meal, spoiled a bit by the worry of getting car fixed. I'd possibly have marked as a 5 if we had no stress but couldn't fully relax and enjoy as we'd have hoped. We'd like to return some day hopefully. The 140 pounds is steep but it is a lovely experience and if you like seafood you should give it a try.

We loved the seafood tasting menu. Seven courses of heaven. It would be very difficult to choose a standout dish, it was all perfectly cooked and absolutely delicious. Service was professional yet friendly. We would love to eat here again soon.

A small seafood restaurant, overall the food was very good, but the recommended dessert was a bit lacking (I believe it was a variation on sticky toffee pudding, but 2 of us who had it did not really like it), and a couple of the main dishes were also a bit lacking. Not a horrible meal but not a fabulous meal that we had expected. The portions tend to be on the smaller side.

We booked well in advance of our trip to Skye, it gets booked up far in advance. Tasting menu is the only option in the evening but we would have chosen that anyway, showcasing local seafood/fish. Every course was absolutely delicious and decent size, eg 3 normal size scallops, good size half lobster. We also treated ourselves to the wine flight which was also lovely. Service was fab too, nothing at all I can fault, yes its expensive but worth every penny & you can see the quality of the food & effort involved.

The restaurant is really small and it did feel a bit "close". You have to go for a drink in the local pub because there is no bar here but that is not a problem. The service is very relaxed and friendly. The tasting menu was well executed and very focussed on good local produce.
