Food and ambience

We are pleased to have you as our guests at Lake Huron Fish & Chips restaurant. We offer the tastiest local Whitefish as well as the popular English-style deep fried haddock fish and chips in our homemade beer batter. Another great menu item is our burger which is handmade from local Manitoulin beef. There are the classics too: onion rings and poutine. We have vegetarian options as well. Come by for a visit we'd love to have you!

We had heard so many awesome comments about Lake Huron Fish & Chips and were excited to find out for ourselves. Our first experience, however, was disappointing. We waited in line for 20 minutes and when it was finally our turn to place our order,...we were told that they were taking orders for pick up at 7:45 p.m. - and it was only 5:50 p.m.! No apologies by the staff member...just more of a that's the way it is attitude. Also, we had wanted whitefish and it wasn't available. Waiting that long wasn't going to work for us, so we left somewhat annoyed, thinking that it would have been nice if an announcement would have been made to those waiting in line or if there had been a sign indicating the next available pick up time. Some people in line had phoned in their orders and were just waiting to pay. Seems we just happened to pick a very busy time, so we gave it another try a few days later, and the wait was only 20 minutes...much more reasonable and more in line with the wait time we would expect, and this time the person taking our order was super friendly. Our fish and chips were good, although I would have been happier with less batter. Prices were reasonable. Unfortunately due to Covid, their patio wasn't open, but there are picnic tables nearby. We'd go back, but next time we'll call ahead!More

Not only is this the best in town, its the only in town!! They have perfected the ordering during COVID -- one lines up outside and individually approach the ordering window, place your order and are then given a time to pick up there order...-- it was busy when we we there so our wait was about 30 minutes so wandered through the one local shop (worth a visit). We then took our fish to the beach area where there are picnic tables (you cannot eat at the restaurant) and a long boardwalk to "wear off"the great food afterwards. The food is very good and the prices are very reasonable. Worth a visit.More

We went twice in one day! Fish and Chips were delicious. Staff members seemed to be having a good time in the kitchen. Good morale. Good vibes all the way around. Well worth the wait in line.

Mmm... best fish and chips I've had in a long time. So good. They have limited hours this year and make your order when you place it, so depending on the time of day it can take a while. For dinner it was a 45...minute wait but mid-afternoon it was about 15 minutes. Either way, it's definitely worth the wait. Be sure to have at least one meal here while visiting.More

Almost indescribably, sublimely delicious. So glad we chose the local “whitefish” . An Intensely fresh, thick filet in a very delicate crispy batter that we found uniquely wonderful. Fries were good Onion Rings very good. They have adapted well to the COVID strictures; ordering/pick up...orchestrated smoothly. We are still raving about this perfect meal & give highest commendation. A reason in itself to return to the Island. My husband is British born & has Fish& Chips the world over and rated these as “best ever”.More

What you imagined it would be!!! We got poutine as well as the fish and chips. Obviously too much food and note - you don’t need to purchase extra tartar sauce. Seriously yummy!! Just writing about it makes me hungry!!!

What a great little spot to have fish and chips. The service was wonderful. We had to pre-order our meal which is just fine with us. You are going nowhere fast in this sleepy beach village. The meal was fantastic. We took our meal back...to the B & B we were staying at and had a picnic. We are lake fish eaters and we were not disappointed. The portions are just right.More

Any time I am on the island this place is my go-to for a satisfying meal together with my family. Due to travel restrictions this year, we are unable to get there. I contacted the staff and they were super helpful to arrange a gift...certificate for my Dad for Father's Day. Even if I can't enjoy the food this summer, I appreciate that they helped make it possible for my Dad to enjoy it with me in spirit.More

We missed their season last year. This time we enjoyed local white fish served at its best on their last day of season. Glad we made it.

We do not use peanuts on site. You could have a sausage or veggie burger on lettuce if gluten is an issue. Hope that helps!
