We were passing through Tamworth and my husband wanted a bit of lunch so we stopped at the River Bakery Cafe & Patio. We ordered a reuben on marble rye with house Russian dressing to share and it was delicious. My husband had a root...beer (River Bakery stocks Boylan brand soft drinks which are made with cane sugar, not the much cheaper corn syrup like most other companies use) that he liked a lot. I had a really nice coffee. I'm always hesitant to order a cup of coffee because so many places cheap out on their coffee, figuring that people don't really care, and so often the coffee that is served is, frankly, awful. I care though. And honestly, that was a nice cup of coffee. My husband also had a bourbon butter tart for afters. He's picky about his butter tarts and said it wasn't as raisiny as it could have been and that it was "just ok". Butter tart people are funny. Thick pastry, thin pastry, runny filling, firm filling, lots or some or no raisins, pecans, walnuts - personally, I don't think there's anyway of satisfying all butter tart fans all of the time. But he said his was "ok" so let's go with that. We had a good meal and will definitely stop in at the River Bakery again the next time we're in the area.More

Stopped in while paddling through Tamworth on the Salmon River. Awesome puff pastry treats. Highly recommend the spicy Jamaican Patty and the ribs.

Superb! We stopped here for breakfast and bought 4 different pastries to share.... and then we came back to buy more for our break the following day as they would not be open for our early departure. Coffee was delicious - I had four refills!

There is a wide variety of choice from squares, tarts, cakes, cinnamon buns, savoury treats, breads etc. The staff is super friendly, the place is very clean and the prices are very good. We stopped by for a quick snack passing through town and were greeted with friendly service and good food. The cinnamon bun was excellent, with a rich, tasty icing. The cookies were a little bit hard but tasted great. The value was good.

We stopped here for lunch on the way to Kingston. The coffee is great and the sandwiches are quite tasty. Being a bakery they are known for their muffins, cookies and pastries. We tried the coconut covered rum balls which were very good. We also...had 2 chicken salad croissants, they were good too. The service is friendly. This is a great place to meet local folk too - everyone in Tamworth seems so friendly and appreciate visitors. We noticed they do serve beer and wine here and some gourmet sodas although we didn't try any - only the coffee. Restrooms are very clean too.More
