About
Travellers' Choice
2024
Y Ffarmers is a beautiful country dining pub ten minutes from Aberystwyth, located in the picturesque village of Llanfihangel y Creuddyn in the rural Welsh countryside. We are currently offering inside dining, beautiful covered & heated outside dining, as well as takeaways. All our food is completely homemade, using local produce where possible. We have a great selection of fine wines, real ale, craft ciders, beers, lagers & spirits. Booking is strongly recommended as we get very busy. We don’t have our own car park, but we do have a very safe, friendly village with plenty of places to park. Please note that we are a rural country pub with rural country roads. We believe that this is part of the village’s charm. We kindly ask that you don’t leave negative reviews of our business based on public roads that lead to the village. Thank you :)

We're here on holiday at the moment and the owner of our holiday home recommended this place for Sunday lunch. Easily the best Sunday lunch we've had out overall, and we've had a few! Proper gravy, generous portions and lovely selection of veg. The cauliflower cheese and white chocolate and raspberry cheesecake were delicious, as was the soup of the day (leek & potato). They are dog friendly with a small separate room for these tables which was perfect for us with our dog.
The place itself is clean and has a lovely, warm, old feel.
Only thing that was slightly disappointing was that it was my mums 65th birthday and she was wearing a birthday sash and tiara, but only 1 of the 3 waitresses we interacted with acknowledged this. It would have been nice for all of them to wish her happy birthday if nothing else.

We booked last minute having heard by word-of-mouth how amazing this place was, and we were not disappointed! Staff were lovely, even though we arrived a little late, and they were friendly and warm throughout our meal. We both ordered roasts and they were beautifully presented and absolutely delicious. Amazing slices of meat, thick gravy, crunchy veg - everything you could ask for on a sunny Sunday afternoon. They even brought our dog a little tub of roast turkey so that he didn't feel he was missing out. Although there was really no need after we'd polished off every morsel on our plates, we both tucked into one of the wonderful desserts on offer, both of which were utterly scrummy. Our only regret is that we live three hours away so we can't make this a regular weekend treat.

A stylish village pub with delicious, original food and really friendly staff. We shared the pork ribs as a starter then had a steak and ale pie and a taco plate of grilled halloumi, avocado, mango salsa, lime crème & salad & fantastic sweet potato fries. It was all just fab!

There’s no denying the decor is beautiful, but I didn’t visit to admire the restored beams and abundance of plants: we went for a beautiful lunch. It sadly did not deliver. The food was delivered luke warm; roast potatoes were under cooked and coated with herbs (never a good sign!) No kids menu, and their meals looked identical to the adults; no appreciation for a child’s taste. Gravy was watery. Cauliflower cheese had far too much mustard and a thin sauce. We left feeling cheated. We don’t mind paying for a good meal but this wasn’t it! Do yourselves a favour and don’t believe the reviews on here. Left for dessert in Aberystwyth. A beautiful ice cream place.

We had done our research before booking for Y Ffarmers and understood it to be a pub/restaurant with food at a fairly high price point, however it was a special occasion, so we booked a table for 2.
It wasn't a great experience though. Our table felt as if it was in a corridor with constant traffic of staff and customers which wasn't pleasant, my back was very near the kitchen door which wasn't great and my husband was sitting next to open bi-fold doors on a fairly chilly evening and the draft was pretty cold so he had to eat his meal with his coat on. I ordered a glass of wine (Merlot) which really was nothing special in fact it tasted of a very average supermarket choice, which was a shame as they say they have an extensive wine list which suggests that they take pride in the wine they offer, but clearly not. The food, was delicious, beautifully presented and really good flavours, so very well done chef. However the whole experience was ruined by the many families who were dining with loud, excitable and screaming young children, honestly we would have had a better experience if we had gone to Wetherspoons, it was horribly noisy and there was no way that you could here the music playing, and children were constantly running backwards and forwards past us, it was horrid. However we asked for the bill, which arrived with the manager and a card machine, so no time to look at the bill a check it, and the manager stood over me while I was asked by the machine to make a gratuity additional payment, and as the manager was standing right over me I felt totally inhibited and unable to ask my husband what he thought about giving a tip, so I pressed the 10% button, but bitterly regretted it as the whole evening was a total disppointment and ruined our special day.

What a fabulous find. We were on an open day visit to Aberystwyth and came across their website which looked great so we booked. Well worth booking. You pop out into a fabulous little village and this gem. Friendly welcome, lovely surroundings and decor. Good wine list and the food was fantastic. Well presented, good portion size and tastes to die for. I had the pie if the day which was a proper pie, not puff pastry lid. Full of meat and fabulous gravy. My daughter had the Welsh lamb cooked beautifully, the honey comb ice cream and my rhubarb and custard desert were just as wonderful. It is now firmly in my Google saved places list. Lovely visit and did I mention the fab staff? Recommend very highly.

As it happens my son and I had Sunday lunch at Y Ffarmers yesterday (5th May) the same day as the previous reviewer Rebecca R. I thoroughly enjoyed my Sunday lunch - roast potatoes with herbs, yes please! Cauliflower cheese with mustard, yummy! Such a shame Rebecca didn't like hers. If her children wanted to eat a 'children's menu' maybe she would have been better choosing to eat in an establishment where nuggets are served in a bucket.

Friendly, welcoming feel to the pub with prompt and cheerful service. Unfortunately the food didn’t quite match up. The ribs starter was really good but the polenta prawns were very, very dry, similarly the fish and chips and steak pie were gorgeous but the burger and the bun were both very dry and lacking the normal succulence expected, steak was good but not really £24 good. Pudddings were delicious. So there you are, a tale of two halves. I think when spending £160 for 4 in a pub, everyone really needs to have enjoyed themselves to feel it was good value.

I moved to Aberystwyth a year ago and Y Ffarmers is the favourite place to go whenever family visit and a place I would highly recommend to anyone who appreciates great home made food , service and ambience . Caitlin and her team are very welcoming and on this visit we had a dog with us and required a Gluten free meal for 1 of us . We were in a sweet little dining area where the dog was welcome and advised which meals on the menu could be adapted to be Gluten free . The food is consistently excellent and priced right for the quality you receive. I can highly recommend this restaurant for any occasion .

As locals who like good food, we try and eat here whenever we can. The atmosphere is always relaxed and efficient. The food is always well cooked and from good quality locally sourced ingredients. The chef has always accommodated any special requirements whenever we have eaten with visiting family. Caitlin and Lewis have built up a quality business here, based on local ingredients, value for money and lovely staff. No idea what Stephen.B was talking about, he is obviously only happy when complaining. Highly recommend the Sunday lunch!

My daughter and son in law were staying with us for a few days without the grandchildren who I love dearly but they are not great dinner companions so we decided to make the most of it.
The meal was wonderful from beginning to end. My husband said that the duck was just perfect - he has high standards! He also made noises about another spud but he wasn't actually hungry. My son in law isn't the most effusive but made all the right noises about his steak. The pie of the day was full of chicken, ham, leek and flavour and the vegetables were delicious.
They had run out of apple sorbet to have with the sticky toffee pudding and when I tasted the replacement clementine sorbet I was pleased that they had! There was no problem when my son in law wanted custard.
We had a reasonably priced and nice bottle of rioja too.
Service was spot on.

Popular spot for a very good reason! We had the pleasure of eating here on a Thursday night and it was very busy on a weekenight with couples and families. The wait staff were charming and genuine, and the food was amazing. It felt so comfy and warm, and there was some nice outdoor seating as well with a huge cat!! This was our second visit within a few weeks and it was a great experience on both ocassions. You need to book ealry as it's always full, a good sign of their quality and effort. Sometimes people just get it right!!!

What an absolute gem of a place, I'm so glad I found it!
The setting is gorgeous, nice and quiet even when full, with wood fires giving a very comforting feel. A fresh menu, with traditional meals and some interesting twists. Very well stocked with a range of gins. The sorbet menu was impressive, which was perfect after stuffing myself as much as I could because the food was just too good.
All staff were friendly and attentive. I was impressed with what felt like a genuine personal warm welcome. I felt a bit nervous as I was coming in solo and with a voucher from a local glamping place (Dol Swynol - also highly recommended.) As soon as I walked through the door I felt comfortable, just one of those places you feel good in.
Well worth a drive out to, and you can have a walk in the beautiful surroundings to work up an appetite before - you'll want to come hungry to make the most of it.
Wish I'd taken photos as the food was spectacularly presented. In fact, the waitress asked if I was ok because I was taking so long to admire it rather than tucking in - it almost seemed a shame to eat a work of art!
The Sunday roast veggie option was a glorious feast. No microwaved lasagne here. Thank you for paying attention to veggies (people and plants) and giving us real food rather than vegan packet stuff. Incredibly generous portions too.
Honestly, I'm so impressed with this place. Wish I lived closer but I'll visit next time I'm in the area for sure.

My girlfriend and I visited this great looking pub/restaurant on 17/08/23 to celebrate my girlfriend’s birthday. Unfortunately my food did not live up to the lovely surroundings. I ordered a medium rare steak with a peppercorn sauce. The sauce was watery and the steak not as I ordered. When I eventually managed to get a member of staff to complain they apologised and agreed to provide another steak and sauce. This time the sauce was marginally better but the steak was tough and chewy. There big sell is locally sourced beef/ produce. All I can say is that the animal the steak came from had had a very hard life! Overall very disappointed would not recommend the streak
