My husband and I popped in to Petaling Street for a quick dinner and we thoroughly enjoyed our meal. A wonderful selection on their menu and our choices reminded us of the wonderful Malay cuisine we enjoyed when we lived in Singapore and frequently travelled in Malayasia. Authentic flavours, cheerful service and a reasonable price left us satisfied and happy... More

It is like the Tardis, small on the outside but big on the inside and even bigger in taste. I was surprised to see one of our many Malaysian friends having lunch at this place but it is kind of good because it means the food is good. I found the place after scouring the internet looking for good restaurants... More

The appearance from outside will be a bit off-putting. I wondered what I had let myself into. However the food is very good and reasonably priced. Prompt service. The seating upstairs is not the most comfortable, but it is a sort of place you enter, order, eat and leave. Judging from the high volume of customers, it is a popular... More

This would have to be one of those hidden gems in Sydney's foodie culture. Utterly amazing food......soooooo good! A great variety of dishes to choose from. This restaurant is BYO and a corkage fee applies. Our bill......$35.00! (Our bottle of wine was more than that). We'll go back every time we visit Sydney.

Wow! The food here is excellent. A hole in the wall / Mom and Pop type of restaurant but the food! If we could, we would have ordered more dishes. We ordered roasted chicken, 2 chicken dishes, a beef dish and fried rice (sorry but I for got my phone when we went here). But this place was packed and... More

Yummy Laksa. Felt I was in Malaysia, environment loud, busy, all kinds of foods being cooked. Can't fault the Laksa. Thoroughly recommend.

Went with family.. looks like a small place from the outside, but it's big 2 levels. The kitchen looks clean, the seating area needs a bit of refurbishment. The food is good, has the usual Malay food like roti, laksa etc. not expensive as well..

About a week ago, my wife, her friend and I went to Chatswood Westfield shopping centre and were looking for a suitalbe place to have lunch. We decided to try Malaysian food for a change. We were not very far from the Chatswood Interchange. We went to the Petaling Street Restaurnt which is in the Chatswood Interchange at the podium... More

Petaling Street is one of our favorite Malaysian resto in the city. A few competing restos like Sedap and Pappa Rich always comes to mind if craving for Malaysia food, but Petaling Street won our hearts tonight because of their homemade tofu dish! The dish is fried tofu with pork mince and egg white sauce (or something like that). My... More

Went alone for a late night bite in this joint and ordered the Fried Kway Teow (a personal favourite of mine among Malaysian street foods.) In Malaysia, you might pay a third of the price for the same thing, but as we are only talking the $10-range and this is a more expensive country they can hardly be faulted. There... More

Staying in Chinatown

Neighbourhood Profile
Chinatown
Tiger-flanked archways on Dixon Street mark the entrance to the “little Asia” of Sydney. A walk through Chinatown is a feast for the senses where aromas, tastes, sounds and visions of dancing tigers transport you to a different world. Chinatown visitors can expect a melting pot of Asian food at the neighbourhood's specialty delis and groceries. From yum cha to handmade noodles, BBQ ducks hanging in the window to Asian sweets and bakeries, there is something for all tastes. Paddy’s Markets is the largest flea market in Sydney where you can find souvenirs, clothing, gifts and fruit and vegetables at unbeatable prices. At night, Chinatown comes alive with entertainment including theatre, nightclubs and bars that are open until the early morning.
