For a party of 8 we had a fixed menu with many delicious courses, each one as good or better than the last! Very accommodating for gluten and lactose free dietary sensitivities. Attentive service without rushing!

Funky atmosphere, good service, interesting food and thoughtful wine list. This is my go to restaurant when I am craving Asian. Well worth a visit.

We were looking for an resturant to treat ourselves on our trip to Sydney... we found it at the Red Lantern. We had the tasting menu.. 8 delicious courses which flowed on from each other very well. The staff were friendly, efficient & attentive. The resturant ambiance took me back to my holiday in Vietnam. This evening was a very... More

We had great expectations but in reality is was only a restaurant. My wife and I are great admirers of Luke Nguyen and enjoy his cooking on TV including his travelling around the world. At his restaurant the service was satisfactory but nothing special and the food while enjoyable was only comparable to Vietnamese restaurants in Newcastle! Hence our disappointment;... More

First visit here to celebrate a friend's birthday. The restaurant was full and on a Wednesday night too. The waiter suggested a set menu and we were happy to go with the Hanoi Set (the cheaper of the two options). Great food throughout with an eight course menu. Soft rice paper rolls to start were lovely as was the chilli... More

You have to have the banquet but if there is something that you do not want on the banquet then simply ask them to substitute that dish for another. Vietnamese is about balance and co-ordination. the staff are excellent at this. i had originally picked al a carte. the waitress convinced be to go the banquet with changes and it... More

Very cool fit out with great use of timber and stone, yielding an intimate comfortable atmosphere. We went to Red lantern on a Tuesday night and had the banquet as we were in a group of eight. There was probably a bit too much food on the $85 menu, so maybe try the smaller one, then food was all good.... More

Being a fan of Luke Nguyen's TV shows my wife and I took the opportunity to visit the Red Lantern and we were not dissapointed. The layout and ambiance of the restaurant reminded us of restaurants we had been to in Vietnam. The waiting staff and the quality of the food was fantastic and well worth the visit. we chose... We arrived on time for the banquet meal and Saturday night and enjoyed some average but also some very tasty dishes. There were often long gaps between courses though and nearby tables on the same 630 pm banquet seemed at least one dish ahead of us most of the time. When we mentioned this to the staff we were unhelpfully... More

Neighbourhood Profile
Darlinghurst
Home of the small bar revolution in Sydney, Darlinghurst has more bars per capita than any other suburb. Themes range from American whiskey bars and 1950’s theme bars to hidden bars requiring secret passwords. Oxford Street is the "Gay Capital" of Australia, where gay and lesbian-friendly venues feature “diva shows” and dancing until the morning. Vintage lovers flock to Crown Street, and small designer boutiques can be found along Victoria and Bourke Streets. Dining in Darlinghurst is a gastronomic adventure. Food from all over the world is on the menu, from American ribs to tapas, sushi to gelato and every ethnicity in between.
