Hidden bar behind the barbershop great for whiskey lovers It may be hard to find, but just find the velvet rope and the doorman and you'll know that you are not far from the entrance

Amazing selection of whisky. Lovely chilled out atmosphere, also felt like we could be in middle of old New York. Loved it and would highly recommend and will most certainly return

Even if you don't love whiskey, you will love this place. Down a dark alley to the end of a courtyard, past some rubbish bins, past a friendly bouncer and down a set of dodgy stairs, where you open the door and step into a prohibition era themed bar. Step up to the bar and you are confronted with a... More

I love this bar. I love to take visitors to this bar because it quite unique. The coctails are amazing, the music (jazzy) and ambience is super cool and the bartenders really know what they are doing.

If you like whiskey, Baxter's is the place to go in Sydney. Great selection and it has the feel of an old school whiskey bar. Depending on your tastes, it can be quite expensive but it is definitely worth a visit!

This place is built up around the whole American prohibition era theme. But it is done in a cool way and the bar itself has some very rare whiskey finds, good beer, nice guys behind the bar This would be my go-to place for after work drinks if I worked in the CBD.

This is one of the coolest bars in Sydney but not that easy to locate! Head through the archway next to Atelier at 156 Clarence St and into the cobbled courtyard. Turn right and walk through the unmarked door which leads you down some stairs to a nondescript door and hey presto, you're in the jam packed but oh so... More

This hidden away little gem is well worth the visit, if your a whiskey drinker then you will enjoy the amazing array of whiskeys varying in price from the rare to the everyday. The setting is like the old wine bar days of the 70's dark, cozy and crowded. It has an atmosphere of it's own. Always plenty of pretzels... More

Have been to Baxters numerous times and always take visitors. Finding the entrance is part of the fun. Don't let the alleyway or steps down past the beer kegs slow you down. Bartenders very knowledgable about the whiskey. Sitting at the bar best place to be. Get there early as it fills up fast.

Thank Nancy M

Staying in Central Business District

Neighbourhood Profile
Central Business District
The Sydney Central Business District is abuzz with energy. Power brokers run to and from high rise buildings and after-work drink places, high-end shoppers tour venues like the QVB, and fine diners frequent the many celebrity chef restaurants. For a dose of culture, walk to the NSW Art Gallery, or visit the Sydney Museum. To escape the hustle and bustle, reconnect with nature at the Sydney Botanical Gardens or picnic lunch at High Park. No matter your interest, be sure to check the full calendar of events hosted by the city, from the Sydney Festival in January to October’s Good Food Month at Hyde Park.
