This is a no frills japanese restaurant, loved by the locals of Darlinghurst and surrounds. They've been operating for many years now and without fail provide excellent japanese meals at reasonable prices. The staff are super friendly and the service is fast. The place is small however cosy and it gets very busy during lunch and dinner time. I highly... More

I had lunch at Dondon on a rainy afternoon; the small shop is between Crown Street and Oxford Street. The food was average.

I am never never disappointed in the meal I have at Don Don. Great value and great quality which hasn't varied over decades.

We found it bay chance when the 1st of January everything was closed. Food was good. It's a small and quite busy restaurant serving all kind of japanase food. Service was nice and price affordable.

This is a great little restaurant. The food is excellent. As others have commented, its a tiny place, very small tables and absolutely no frills. But its one of the reasons I really like this place. Its all about the food. I will definitely be coming back here soon.

This place is near impossible to get into. The food is simple, cheap but always reliably good. It feels as though you are eating in someone's home. Tiny tables. Rough decor but you don't come here for fine dining. ... just good home style Japanese food.

Good place on Oxford St, delicious food, big serve and pretty cheap. Some improvement can be made on the place & on the decoration.

A hidden Gem on Oxford Street, Don Don is a perfect place for lunch or dinner if you're in the area. The dishes are delicious, they serve very generous portions, the service is great and it probably doesn't get any cheaper than this. For $10 you'll walk out feeling like a king. I'll be back a million times.

Food here is inexpensive and tasty, and a big serve your unlikely to finish, right in the heart of Sydney's LGBT community.

Sydney has a stack of cracking Japanese restaurants, but based on price, service and location - Don Don is one my staples and my favourites. The food is very good, the service is excellent, the prices are phenomenal. It's BYO, so you can bring in your own beer, and the servings are big, but not as ridiculously big as Sushi... More

Staying in Darlinghurst

Neighbourhood Profile
Darlinghurst
Home of the small bar revolution in Sydney, Darlinghurst has more bars per capita than any other suburb. Themes range from American whiskey bars and 1950’s theme bars to hidden bars requiring secret passwords. Oxford Street is the "Gay Capital" of Australia, where gay and lesbian-friendly venues feature “diva shows” and dancing until the morning. Vintage lovers flock to Crown Street, and small designer boutiques can be found along Victoria and Bourke Streets. Dining in Darlinghurst is a gastronomic adventure. Food from all over the world is on the menu, from American ribs to tapas, sushi to gelato and every ethnicity in between.
