I've been eating at The Malaya for about 15 years and now that I live overseas I make a point of eating here at least once when I visit Sydney (on my latest trip I managed to squeeze in 2 meals here). Their signature king prawn laksa is my absolute favourite dish - the flavours are well balanced and the... More

Visited on a Tuesday night, from the moment we arrived the earth and hospitality was excellent Great selection of food and drinks and as I had already read on trip advisor, house wines were very good All of the dishes were very flavoursome and whilst some of the flavours were not what we were expecting we will certainly return as every... Eight of us visited on Easter Sunday for a 20th birthday. Lovely meal & great service. The staff were very accomodating as we had two vegetarians & one vegan with us. They went out their way to explain the meals to them to ensure their requirements were met. Most enjoyable & would definitely go back.

If you are wandering down the Kingstreet Wharf, hungry but not certain where to eat then you have to try The Malaya. One of our group had been there before a few years ago, so based on his suggestion we thought we try it - so glad we did. The large dining room overlooks Darling Harbour and for a Wednesday... More

I dont understand how a restaurant with servive lime this and food like this gets high feedback. Im losing faith in trip advisor. They use cheap ingredients, frozen products to produce food no different to a cheap asian place in a food court. Will not be going back.

Used the TripAdvisor app to find the Malaya and absolutely loved it. Service was very efficient and friendly. I started with the Szechuan hot and sour soup which had just the right balance of heat and tart. Followed it with the Pepper beef with chilli which was superb. The beef was very tender and flavour was spot on. Would have... More

Great food, great guidance from the staff sorting a rather extensive menu to select two wonderful curries. Even helped us find a great wine match. Flavor and spice combinations were some of the best we've had.

Staying in Darling Harbour

Neighbourhood Profile
Darling Harbour
The original docklands of Darling Harbour have been transformed into a tourist mecca with entertainment for the whole family. Cockle Bay Wharf offers dining options from budget to upscale and million dollar views of the harbour. Young crowds gather on weekends for nightlife that ranges from salsa clubs to Dj’s. Families can visit the Chinese Gardens of Friendship or the Sydney Aquarium, one of the largest in the world. The Sydney Maritime Museum and the IMAX theatre are also popular attractions. The Harbourside Shopping Centre is a site unto itself, with hundreds of shops, restaurants and bars. On Saturdays in the summer, the city puts on a spectacular fireworks show along the harbour's shore and there are plenty of other free events during the year - Darling Harbour Fiesta, VIVID’s light installations and the Sydney Festival, just to name a few.
