Had a really lovely birthday dinner here - food was beautiful and full of flavour, service was very warm and welcoming. A thoroughly enjoyable evening, highly recommend A Tavola to anyone looking for an authentic Italian meal in Sydney.

A Tavalo is a great fine dining option in a small town with few fine restaurants with outstanding home made pasta. Try the lamb ragout, my husband was swooning. Portions are large, service is friendly.

Ended up here by chance - the weather being so bad that we didn't want to keep searching. Limited menu choice on purpose - the chef makes really good food from the best ingredients that day. We really enjoyed our choices and more importantly the descriptions of both the food and wine from our very knowledgeable waiter, who really made... More

Being unable to make an online reservation, we chanced our luck and walked a kilometre to find this small Italian restaurant. We were in luck. What a find and well worth the walk! We shared the delicious Baked Olives starter and then both loved the Pappardell Al Ragu. Finally, the Crémino Al Chocolato was simply superb. What a find!

This is a stand out restaurant. I am from Europe and can tell you this is up there with the best Italian restaurants on the continent, Italy included. From the fantastic service (all Italians, who are kind, funny, passionate and attentive), the ambiance (candlelit and romantic, I always request to sit upstairs so we have our own table, but others... Went here for lunch with my wife. We we welcomed like a family member and given first class service. The food was most tasty and good sized serve. Whilst not cheap I would return in a heartbeat!

Went here for a friend's birthday. There were 8 of us and we all thoroughly thoroughly thoroughly loved the food, wine, atmosphere and staff. The food was spectacular. You cannot go wrong - Italian at its best! The salads are wonderfully fresh and crisp, the pastas are moreish and tasty and the deserts are divine. We had share plates of... More

Everything I ate here was so good, from the salad to the dessert. The chocolate dessert was to die for! I wish there were more Italian places like this where I'm from in the States.

Lovely short lunch meeting with delicious dishes. All the dishes we tried were enjoyable. Wine list had something for everyone, and even the machiatto was great. Attentive service. If you are ok in a constrained space as it's an old terrace in Victoria St then you'll find this a treat.

Staying in Darlinghurst

Neighbourhood Profile
Darlinghurst
Home of the small bar revolution in Sydney, Darlinghurst has more bars per capita than any other suburb. Themes range from American whiskey bars and 1950’s theme bars to hidden bars requiring secret passwords. Oxford Street is the "Gay Capital" of Australia, where gay and lesbian-friendly venues feature “diva shows” and dancing until the morning. Vintage lovers flock to Crown Street, and small designer boutiques can be found along Victoria and Bourke Streets. Dining in Darlinghurst is a gastronomic adventure. Food from all over the world is on the menu, from American ribs to tapas, sushi to gelato and every ethnicity in between.
