I ordered the "mushrooms on grain sour dough" from the special's board. They were bland and had little seasoning. The bread did not appear to be grain. I did notice the mushrooms listed on the inside specials board as just on sour dough ( not grain) so maybe that was a typo on the board outside. The mushrooms were just... More

I have been a number of times and have always had excellent coffee and breakfast. The service is good but you shouldn't go there if you are in a rush. You can sit inside or out and there is always an interesting passing parade as you \are on the Corner of Salamanca.

Visited Retro cafe for the first time and I was appalled by the coffee, it was burnt scolding milk, bitter in taste as well as the visual look of the coffee machine was dirty, the milk steam wand was covered in layers of dirty stale Milk. Couldn't even have a second sip. The service also was very unfriendly. Very disappointed... More

Visited recently with friends and enjoyed coffee and cakes. Friendly, fast table service in the heart of Salamanca. This is an old established cafe and a perfect place to rest and restore.

Just happened across Retro Cafe while strolling down the road - friendly staff and funky decor in a good location. Had two great meals and good coffee too.Better than a highly rated cafe down the road!

Dropped in for breakfast. Very busy but staff were still friendly and attentive. Coffee was wonderful. I had toast and homemade jam which was lovely my husband had eggs and free range bacon which was really nice. Definitely recommend trying.

A busy Monday morning and the place was buzzing with locals reading the papers and coming in for take-away coffees. Our group of 7 would have struggled to get seated had it not been for a very obliging local who moved to a smaller table with his paper and cuppa. The place ticks along very efficiently with friendly staff, great... More

When you are travelling you actually don't want days upon days of fancy brekkies. Sometimes you just want poached egg on toast (our favourite) without the bells and whistles. What we loved about Retro, is that is just what we could have - and if you wanted the bells, their options also allowed for that. Recommended.
