We went for Sunday lunch, the pizza and pasta dishes we ordered were stunning, the homemade pasta was delicious and pizza's great, really enjoyed the food. The service was dreadful. The restaurant was not full but the staff kept looking over us and even with our hands in the air, they would disappear for a chat together outside. We had... More

We, as a party of six went there on Saturday night and then returned on the Sunday it was so good. The first thing you notice is the attention of the staff. They are so attentive to ensure that you have a great experience. The menu is extensive and there was something for all of us to eat. The boccini... More

First visit to Cafe Cavallino, staff very friendly and helpful and managed to seat our party of 6 in quick time. Food was delicious and very large sizes even though we ordered entree sizes a couple of people still didn't make it to the finish line. Only disappointment was that they sold out of Tiramisu before we got to order... More

My husband and I have been to this restaurant a few times. Mostly the food is quite ok, though service is somewhat lacking. When we went here last week I got an additional charge of 60c for some additional dressing for my Caesar salad, which astounded me as no restaurant I know of has ever charged me for that. I... More

My family and I had dinner on a Saturday night and for most part, the experience was OK. The alla matricianna with gnocchi was well cooked and the sauce was thick. The Hawaiian pizza the kids had tasted good and was not a traditional type of Hawaiian pizza. The desert was huge to say the least so if you have... More

Recommended by my daughter, we went there for dinner. Obviously it should be popular by judging the crowd all alfresco and inside seating were almost full at our time of visit ( just after office hours) Ambiance is usual food street restaurant type . Only difference was that inside decorations were full of Ferrari formula racing memorabilia and footballs. Owner... More

Came for Sunday lunch. Have been here before and was impressed with the pizzas. Today it was pasta and other mains. Sitting outside the service was average. The food was nice but mine was nothing really spectacular. I had gourmet agnolotti. They were large but the taste wasn't really there. Others with me enjoyed their meals but when asked they... More

Don't bother. Pasta Napoli was so badly cooked it smelt and tasted off. I am a lover of Italian food and let me tell you this is not a great place. I told the waitress the food was not up to scratch and they looked at me with such anger and finally the chef came out and said the pasta... More

We had a good meal here on a Sunday evening. Arrived at 1830 and was seated immediately. Lovely waitress and service and not too crammed in as you will find most of the eateries in Lygon St.

Our friends brought us here for dinner. Fantastic food and atmosphere. Delicious pizza. We had the best best Caprese salad we've ever had at a restaurant. Will definitely come back and next time it's our turn to bring our friends here.

Staying in Lygon Street

Neighbourhood Profile
Lygon Street
If you want real parmesan, cut from the block, grated over your pasta with a twist of style, this is the place. Until recently, this neighbourhood was home to the notorious ‘Carlton Crew,’ a pseudo mafia who started their day with a local espresso. They are gone, but the espresso still runs strong in this Little Italy which has something for everyone. Starched white tablecloths, candles, pizza the way they do it "back home" and maybe even a bit of amore. The number of gelato choices will leave you in a state of indecision and wide footpaths, big awnings and a sea of packed tables makes this al fresco dining experience a continental buzz. Even if you’re not eating, it’s worth the stroll just for the people-watching, which, of course, is an Italian tradition.
