About
Roule Galette is a little piece of France in the city where you will find French staff, speaking the language of Voltaire who will serve you in a warm and intimate setting reminiscent of Montmartre in Paris. Music, whether Breton or French songs of the last century or more modern times will accompany your meal along with authentic Cider from the Pays d'Auge in Normandie, or Cotes du Rhone or Burgundy wines. Not to forget the inimitable Orangina.

It was an exceptionally hot day and we were fortunate to find an empty table inside the tiny indoor, very quaint part of the restaurant which is separated by an alley from the few outdoor tables opposite and another tiny indoor area where you pay for your meal. A very interesting unusual set up which works well. The staff all seemed fluent in French and with many of the patrons chatting away in French too, we enjoyed feeling as though we were in France. My husband wasn't at all enthusiastic about stopping here for a meal and reluctantly ordered the terroir sausage meal whilst I ordered the sweet brie crepe. We both enjoyed our freshly cooked meals. The iced coffee drink was so delicious that my hubby immediately ordered a second. He was also wanting to sample a dessert crepe, but found he was too full. He is so pleased that we visited this fantastic restaurant and I know this will be on our agenda next time we visit Melbourne. In spite of the restaurant being so small, we never felt rushed and it was a very relaxing and wonderful dining experience.

Every time I’m in Melbourne I head to this cute little location for the best vegan crepes in Australia! There’s also a gluten free option (the savoury crepes are naturally GF) and they’re both great. A great variety of sweet and savoury crepes that are sure to convert your friends into true fans, and great for anyone with allergies. Be prepared to queue and have very slow service for this amazing food though! It’s a tight little location down a lane you’ll miss if you’re not watching out, and while the staff are friendly (and authentically French) they’ll take a while to clear a table and seat you. We spent 3-4 mins at the front of the line staring down some empty tables and waiting for the staff to clear them, but they were very friendly once we got a seat.

I had the Lady Petrova, which was crepes with Nutella and strawberries. Reasonably priced and it was tasty, but the serving size was small, so I recommend ordering something else to go with it if you’re after a larger meal. My partner had the Aumonière (Ice cream, homemade whipped cream, chocolate) which he also agreed was good.

Authentic French creperie with great potential that failed to deliver. Ordered gallete and sweet crepe. The buckwheat crepe of the gallete wasn't as firm and nutty as I have had before in France. Ham and cheese was very tasty. The lemon on the sweet crepe tasted artificial. Disappointing when that's the main flavouring. Had to wait a long time for our food with the reason stated being we ordered a sweet and a savoury, then a table after us ordered a lot of sweet so they cooked all the sweet first and then completed our order. Whatever the reason it's never good to see people who ordered after you being served before you! Coffees arrived well after food, which given the above delay, could have been better. Coffee was not strong enough for my taste. Chai latte tasted like milk with little cinnamon in it. Great potential, but small serving size for price and service was not great for me.

Yes they speak French. The crepes are very nice and all the savoury crepes are gluten free. They have French champagne and apple cider and the chef who had just arrived from France was charming and friendly. A bit hard to find but well worth the effort.

This is a great spot for something different for breakfast - fresh crepes with sweet or savoury options The crepes, the fruit and cream toppings were all fresh and quality - which is refreshing. Coffee was great as well. Friendly staff, good conversation, great service - indoor and outdoor seating and not a problem with the pesky building works (no noise or other issues) Definitely a better breakfast option than the standard bacon and eggs.

The food was great - crepes delicate, fillings had a great variety - the dessert crepes were incredible. Prices reasonable. Service prompt and the whole experience leaves you definitely knowing you will be back

Came here on a Saturday and was not aware of the 10% service charge on the weekend. Had two savoury crepes and two sweet ones, the spiced beef & lamb sausage one was our favourite. The waiters were friendly, even offered us to try the French chestnut spread before in a teaspoon before ordering the sweet crepes. Overall we enjoyed our meal here.

We were instantly taken back to our time in la Normandie, and the return was delightful. Business was extraordinarily brisk but it seemed to us that the staff managed to keep on top of it all. We had no unwarranted delays. The menu is quite broad but the staff are always ready to explain what is what, and there was a blackboard menu with a few extra items as well. One MUST enjoy the Cider as well. I would definitely suggest booking, as space is tight. An outside table as we had would be preferable, Melbourne's weather permitting, of course.

Roule Galette serves buckwheat pancakes, which originated from Brittany on France's Atlantic coast. There is a large variety, sweet and savoury. Of course, you can also order wine. If you prefer, you may also order crepes. The staff are very friendly, they even tolerated my French. By the way, buckwheat is not a grain, it is gluten free.

Roule Galette serves buckwheat pancakes, originating in Britany, on France's Atlantic coast. The pancakes are made of buckwheat. It is a seed, not a grain, so it is gluten-free. Buckwheat is grown in Tasmania. The galettes taste good, rather crisp. You can have a variety of fillings. By the way, you can also have crepes, the more conventional French pancakes.

How impressed I was with the quality of the French food and coffee loved the crepes, service was good and loved the French staff. The food was not expensive . Only negative it’s often full and internal tables small. There’s a second shop inCarnegie .

So much joy finding a little piece of France tucked into a laneway in Melbourne 🇳🇱 All of their traditional buckwheat galettes are of gluten free, but also coeliac safe as they use a seperate grill & kitchen space for them so no cross contamination from their crepes! AND all of the crepe flavourings can be done with the buckwheat galettes, so win win 🙌🏻 It is in a very Melbourne foodie laneway. Great experience...for both the savoury and sweet options! When all of the staff and half the customers are speaking fluent French, you know you’re going to get an authentic French cuisine experience:)

A quaint little place with warm homely vibes and French feels! I ordered the cinnamon apple crepe as part of their signatures - and loved the quality (batter) of the crepe, apple toppings and the AMAZING tasting cream! Ice cream unfortunately was sorely average though (they probably don’t do it themselves). But would definitely still recommend this dish. I’m looking forward to return one day, hopefully, to give a try to their savoury crepes as well 😄

France is famous for its crepes, which are more or less pancakes, but its galettes are less well known. Galettes are made of buckwheat, which is not strictly speaking a grain. Galettes, unlike crepes, are crunchy. You can find Roule Galette in a side street off Flinders Lane. Francophones are welcome.

Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
