Lunch specials has value for money options based on Australian standard. If you order any Kari is good for two people to share but order one additional rice. Roti canai is as good as it gets back in any mamak stall in Penang or KL.

First time trying Mamak in Melbourne, we were early and managed to get a table – the restaurant was about 80% full and it was before 6pm. The food was delicious as usual although the menu seemed shorter than the one I’d seen in Sydney. The mild spice level was like a medium, but the food was excellent! The food... More

We love this restaurant and have been many times. All their food is delicious but today we ordered the cuttlefish which was disgusting.. it was sweet and a very weird texture. Try the Nasi lemak, any of the roti, the lamb curry and chicken curry plus the stir fried veggies. The roti tisu for dessert is yum

We had super fast and friendly service, we were even recommended a smaller dish that what we had ordered which was spot on. We ended up having two Nasi Lemak, one with fish and one with chicken curry. Really simple dishes but really tasty and when you mix the nuts and anchovies through the rice, you get really nice little... More

I already mentioned this restaurant in Sydney and gave an excellent review. This restaurant in Melbourne has exactly the same qualities. Authentic, you will enjoy the traditional Malaysian food. Well done to the team.

I came here basically just to try their roti. I passed by their shop quite often and always amaze with the way their make their roti from scratch. Their roti taste good and really pretty. There's thin layer of crispiness followed by soft inside. It comes with sambal (taste good, quite sweet for me), curry and dal on the side.... More

Wonderful food and the best roti that I have ever eaten. Busy restaurant with lovely staff. Very reasonably priced too a bonus in Aus when you are used to UK prices.

Fantastic, full strength Malaysian flavours. We went with a Bruneian friend of ours and she helped us choose. Having lived in that regioon for 4 years, we are really familiar with the cuisonme and this was really authentic! Te tarik was as good as the food!

Delicious simple food. Sensational flavours, good choices and friendly service. Would of loved a beer with our meal, but the restaurant didn't serve alcohol. Clean and tidy, bustling restaurant.

We frequently go to Mamak for lunch. We always enjoy it. They make great Malaysian and Indonesian food and it is sold at a very reasonable price. The roti, satay and the fried rice are probably the best dishes they sell there. However, it is often crammed and the waiters like to put lots of customers in one area and... More

Staying in Central Business District

Neighbourhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
