My husband and I have been trying to eat here for some time but with the restaurant not taking bookings after 5pm, only walk ins, we were often too late and had never wanted to wait. Last night we were keen to celebrate our wedding anniversary here so made it to town by 5:30 to book a table. There was still a 20 minute wait as they have Theatre pre bookings available. It was so worth it. Kim, the maitre de, was an energeticly delightful hostess who made us feel very special by remembering names and congratulating us on our special occasion. She was hugely supportive of her team and created such a positive vibe. Our waiter Alex from Utah, was also fabulous, very friendly and attentive. And then there was the food. We chose the 5 smallish dishes for $37/person which allowed for a lovely variety of flavours and was enough food for us as were are not huge eaters or big on carbs. There were plenty of gf options, we loved the crying tiger beef, the calamari and the galloping horses pork. We will return again but next time we'll try to get a table outside. Inside is a little rowdy, and with a crowed chaotic party vibe. This isn't the place for those looking for a quiet romantic environment for deep and meanIngful conversations or those that like really hearty, filling meals. If you love fresh Asian flavours, buzzing atmosphere and tasting plates then this is the place to be. Just be prepared to arrive early or be ready for a wait.

This small restaurant in the heart of Melbourne’s theatre district is one not to be missed. I highly recommend making a reservation to avoid long waits for a table. Service staff are all friendly and attentive. This is a great place to go to share food with your fellow diners for Very reasonable prices. Don’t go past the lobster dumplings. So delicious.

Hosted country and overseas guests here for lunch this week at the city location. Our waiter Adam was very informative with the concept, suggesting a few dishes, which were spot on! Try the Crying Tiger and (to our surprise) the Thai chicken. Plenty of vegan options, eggplant was excellent. With 5 of us, the share lunch at $32 pp was the way to go, plenty of food, although we did include the scallops from the specials board! All plates incorporated delicious flavours. Wine was reasonably priced $50 a bottle. Service was spot on. Can get very busy, glad we booked as only a few tables outside, an area at the bar and high tables with bar stools. Staff and manager friendly, thanks for a delightful experience! Also can buy their cookbook $35. Highly recommend and will certainly go again.

Chose this place for dinner based on a recommendation of a family member. Could not have picked a better place to eat in Melbourne. Rice Paper Scissors has some of the best Asian food I’ve ever had, and the atmosphere of the restaurant is amazing. We arrived as soon as they opened on a weeknight, and were seated and served quickly. They were getting very busy as we were leaving (probably an hour or two later), and people were queuing and waiting for tables. But we could see why they were so popular. They have so many options, including vegetarian and gluten free, which was helpful for us. Their cocktails are interesting and delicious. We chose the 5 dishes between 2 people, and chose pork buns, lamb ribs, fried chicken, squid, and prawn dumplings. The pork buns were amazing, as were all the other courses, and I would fly back to Melbourne for the day just to have dinner at this place again.

We picked this place because it was near our hotel and TA said it was good and it was a great find. It was buzzing on a Tuesday night and we had to wait for a table for a party of 4 but the cheerful person on the door assured us it was not a problem and the wait was only about 20 minutes. We did as recommended and shared 5 dishes and the food was flavourful and delicious. We also enjoyed three cocktails. Its cheerful and noisy with attentive wait staff and cool food. Recommended.

Although we are classified as Metro Melbourne, many restaurants do not deliver to the Mornington Peninsula, so big thanks to Ellie at Rice Paper Scissors for arranging our Weekender Box last Friday (able to track delivery via text message sent after dispatch) Having missed our RPS fix, we really enjoyed our favourite dishes with minimal prep required. Easy to assemble and heat instructions are on their website and also accessible via QR code. We ordered the lime poached salmon (cold), lamb ribs, Thai BBQ chicken, pork belly and Crying Tiger beef brisket ( heated the last 4 in the oven for 10 minutes) Congee was delicious as were the pandan pancakes we had the next day, only needing a quick zap in the microwave. Good value at $100 for 2 people, $20 delivery fee, doesn't replace the restaurant experience but as close as we could get in lockdown! Highly recommend Rice Paper Scissors Cook at Home Kits, and as soon as we can go further than 5 km we will head to their new premises in Hardware Lane. Well done RPS team, thanks and stay well.

We had an unusual experience with one of the waiters here (Cassidy) . We tried to order the pick any five courses set price lunch for three people. After telling him what we wanted He tried to talk us out of one of the meat dishes suggesting there could be a delay in the kitchen, we told him we didn't mind a delay, and that we prefered that the meals didn't all arrive at once. He persevered trying his best to get us to change our order, we stood our ground and enjoyed a sensational meal at well placed intervals, he tried the same stunt on another table near us. I recommend the restaurant highly, just be weary of Cassidy

Table for two booked for 7pm. Arrived at 6:50, checked in and got given menus about 5 mins after. 6 front of house staff on with about 40 customers. We didn’t get to a waitress/waiter come back to us until 7:35 (after my mother had pulled one aside). Once they did, they didn’t have sangria we ordered and also forgot the beer that we ordered which we also had to ask for again. Food came out one dish at a time when we told the waiter one of us was chicken/vego only. I sat there awkwardly eating the very tasty pork buns an hour after we had arrived while my mother didn’t have anything to eat. Other meals included the crispy barra, sugar cane crab, bbq chicken and some vego dish. I can definitely handle my spice but the crab and Barra were far too spicy, couldn’t enjoy the meal. Other meals were great. Overall, vibe and aesthetic were great, food was a little hit and miss but mostly hit, but service was sub par. Huge improvement needed to get this to a 5 star review. Plenty of staff on that were doing not much at all... I don’t like to sit on my high horse but this is after 7 years of hospo experience. Even hungover me on the Sunday shift did more than these guys.

Quite small dishes but very reasonably priced so you just order lots of little, tasty items. Upon arrival I thought perhaps the food would be a bit too trendy, small and healthy to be enjoyable however I was pleasantly surprised. Everything was so yummy! The staff are high energy, friendly and attentive.

By far the worst lobster roll I have ever had, I mean, not sure how you can advertise a $19 lobster roll when all it was; was a piece of batter fried on a stale bun. The waitress was rude, rude & even ruder after we confirmed we wouldn’t be taking the $40pp deal. So disappointed in this place. Cocktails were good if they were advertised as non alcoholic... over priced, over rated & over talked about!!

PROS Usually not a fan of fusion food but this place was able to change my mind with the barramundi. Perfect with the coconut rice. I would definitely recommend this dish. Try the duck pancackes and also the lotus root chips. Yummy tasting. The spring onion butter was amazing! We loved it so much we asked for more. Service was attentive and very friendly. She was also very understanding that we were dining with 2 young children. Suprised the kids with a selection of coloring books to calm the little ones. Very grateful to her. In fact everyone in there was very friendly and welcoming. CONS Not sure if there are any. I did find the asparagus with the slow cooked egg a little salty for my taste. The roti was good but I have had better elsewhere. Portions were little small and the prices were a tad high. OVERALL I would return but would leave the kids at home. Not that the staff was unwelcoming but the ambiance matches an adults night out. I think I would have enjoyed the night a bit more.

We decided to drop in for lunch as we were passing and have previously had great experiences here. It was a public holiday and we didn't have a reservation, so they sat us outside, which was fine with us as the weather was good. Our table was very small, shared an umbrella with another table and had low hard backless stools, which would have been OK for a quick lunch. However, the service was so slow that we were sat on those hard stools for over an hour and a half. In the meantime the sun moved over and we were frying, as despite several requests to get another umbrella, this wasn't actioned. The food is always great here, but unfortunately it was overshadowed on this occasion as it took far too long to arrive (they also forgot the rice, despite numerous reminders). We waited almost 20 minutes before our drinks arrived. As it was a public holiday there was a 15% surcharge, which we wouldn't have minded had we enjoyed the experience and not been so terribly uncomfortable. I don't think we'll be making a return visit after this experience.

Meet here for lunch with friends. The service was excellent. The food was also excellent but the servings were small and we felt that they were over priced. The setting was very casual and the sitting is mainly small uncomfortable stools to be honest were more suited for children than large adults.

Delicious cocktails with tropical flavours. The shared menu for $45 a head is very generously portioned. Everything we had was super tasty. The only reason for a 4 star is their layout and the service. They are very popular and that’s probably why they are trying to squeeze as many table in as possible. And some tables don’t look very comfortable at all. Service is tentative but I would appreciate they can be more mindful of how much the customers can actually eat to minimise food waste.

We loved our meal at Rice Paper Scissors. Even my partner, who can be quite fussy. We went for the five dishes deal and added some roti as a side. The dishes were brought out at stages and we enjoyed every one of them, but the standouts were the pork belly and crying tiger. Make sure you leave room for dessert, the 'Dad I dropped my ice cream' dish is an experience you must have. The staff were warm and friendly, we sat near the kitchen and enjoyed hearing the banter between all the staff, they all seemed to really enjoy being there and it was reflected in the vibe of the restaurant.

Chinatown
Locals know that Chinatown is the tried and true place to eat before hitting the nightclub scene. The place simply buzzes, and the well-preserved buildings exude a sense of Imperial China stemming from immigration over a century ago. In restaurant after restaurant on Little Bourke Street, you'll find delicious dishes such as sizzling honeyed prawns, and value for your money. Stately matrons oversee family kitchens serving up age-old recipes. The lighting may be unromantic, the patrons loud, and the service no-nonsense, but the food is sensational.
