Had Sunday Yum Cha, hadn't been for a long time and enjoyed the food. They have a large variety of items that come around and they'll accept orders for special items. We ordered the large prawn noodles, which were a little disappointing as they were cheap with the sauce - so they weren't the best I've had. The service could... More

Staying in Chinatown in Melbourne we wanted a quick evening meal before going to the theatre. Decided to try Shark Fin Inn. I ordered the Shark Fin Bird nest, which had seafood, chicken and pork with vegetables served in a fried nest of noodles which was delicious. Service was extremely quick. Price very reasonable. Most meals are priced around twenty... More

Sunday afternoon Yum Cha with friends. Popular place, standard Yum Cha fair, plenty to choose from with efficient service. Good Sunday lunch option in Melbourne.

What a find, such a great fresh yum Cha selection we have not had in years, freshly made very tasty dumplings, great roast duck and the salt and pepper squid was so fresh and tasty. Great selection of dishes even the grandchildren were happy. Great friendly staff

Friday evening seven old friends. A night at the round table. The food arrives amazingly quickly. Spring rolls were given highest accolades. We also shared the bird's nest, fish fillets with veg, mongolian lamb, crispy fried pork spare ribs (became my favourite). Very good service. Waiter right on the ball with drinks and food. I didn't notice that they do... More

Fresh, wholesome dumplings, served hot. Our group of eight really tucked in, grinning :-) $25 per head, we thought was very good value, so we paid little attention to outdated surroundings. Our hosts were cheerful and welcoming. We'll be back soon.

Stayed in a Hotel close to Little Bourke Street, as we usually do. Do our sightseeing, lunching etc during the day and keep our evening meal to be had a Shark Fin. It is open until 0130 am and is great to visit after the theatre. We had two meals there on this visit. The Crystal Prawns and the Sweet... More

Staying in Chinatown

Neighbourhood Profile
Chinatown
Locals know that Chinatown is the tried and true place to eat before hitting the nightclub scene. The place simply buzzes, and the well-preserved buildings exude a sense of Imperial China stemming from immigration over a century ago. In restaurant after restaurant on Little Bourke Street, you'll find delicious dishes such as sizzling honeyed prawns, and value for your money. Stately matrons oversee family kitchens serving up age-old recipes. The lighting may be unromantic, the patrons loud, and the service no-nonsense, but the food is sensational.
