The Journal Cafe is located at the front of the Council for Adult Education (CAE) building and the City Library. It's a good spot for a coffee. I had an iced coffee wish ice-cream and a Portuguese tart, known as a "dan ta" in Asia,...More

The place has a nice vibe and looks great, coffee was ok and the food average. If you're not fussed then it's fine but I wouldn't go back

Happened across this cafe this week and it was packed with local workers looking for presumably, great coffee. This place has a great vibe, lovely efficient staff in my experience and to top it off, such great coffee I had to buy a bag to...More

Went to the Journal Cafe for breakfast. This is a nice, wood lined cafe with hanging bookshelves and huge social communal tables, at the entrance to the City Library in Flinders Lane. The coffee was good although the standard cups were small. Sourdough toast was...More

Journal cafe is located in the Council of Education building in Flinders Lane. It is an oasis of quiet and gentle eating in the middle of the Degraves Street lunchtime madness. Go there for the generous shared tables and predictable but good food - Asian...More

Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways
tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary
feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the
city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques,
throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You
never quite know what you’ll find around the next
corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and
even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air
