There is a standard selection of drinks to choose from. The staff were very friendly and efficient. The prices are very reasonable. A nice spot to watch the world go by

Not a bad bar really, but just a little rundown. Students from the adjacent Uni were bringing their own glasses of wine in, bit odd as a practice. We had chairs put up around us at 9:40pm, extremely rude. It stopped us buying another bottle of wine. Also it's very cluttered and untidy. Needs work but could be good.

We eat here everytime we are in Melbourne. The service is very friendly, with a laid back atmosphere. Meals are always delicious and have never waited long. Prices are competitive for Melbourne City.

First visit to Melbourne and my sisters and I found the Oxford Scholar. Central location. Was there on a week night and had their special of the day which was steak and we also had the fish and chips. Delicious food at a reasonable price. Nice atmosphere and good service from friendly staff. Will definitely dine there again when in... More

We went for one of their steak specials. The service was good, nice atmosphere, the Steak was excellent. The bar was quiet the night we went but when we passed it at lunchtime it was humming !! If you're staying in the area it's well worth a visit!

The amount of pubs you can visit in Melbourne CBD and be served that hard to swallow tepid beer with the old excuse, "it's just the tap hasn't been used for a while". Go fetch! The Oxford has been serving cold beer and quality parmies for the past 15 years and what's great about the place is: Nothing changes. No... More

This was just around the corner from my hotel. I visited it three times. It is a 'university' pub, but since uni was over for the year, I'm guessing that is why it was so quiet. There are chairs and tables outside if you want to drink outdoors or if you are a smoker. Only one pool table.

Description
Opposite RMIT, The Oxford Scholar is popular with after-work types as much as the student body, opening for lunch and dinner with fabulous pub meals.

Open from Monday to Friday 10am to late, and stocked with a wide range of wines, beers on tap and spirits, the Scholar is a great place for a get-together. Catering for all patrons and providing reasonably-priced quality dining, the Scholar provides an open, friendly atmosphere for a broad clientele.

Located at the Sussex-end of Swanston Street, this pub proudly harbours the atmosphere of suburban local right in the heart of the city.

As evening sets in, the bistro menu offers a few cheap meals to down before you hit the pool table. You can even get a group of mates together and start a pool team. Naturally, the booze selection at the Ox is slanted towards the beer end of the scale. Cocktails can be had at more sophisticated venues down the road; this is a beer man’s pub. Tap and bottled offerings include James Squire Amber and Golden Ales, Tooheys Old, Boags Classin Blonde, Becks and many more. And you’ll want a good amount of beer to go with all that sport.

League, Union, Soccer and AFL all get their day in the sun, with the odd meat raffle thrown in for good measure.

Staying in Central Business District

Neighbourhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
