Took a chance and stopped for lunch here as it was close to our hotel...and very happy that we did. Meal was excellent....authentic Indian flavours with enough spice to bite without being overpowering. Worth a visit

The restaurant was very crowded and we had no booking, but it was a mild evening and we sat outside. In fact, for conversation we were probably better off outside, as it seemed very noisy inside. We enjoyed out food; it was served in a timely manner as we had theatre bookings, and the waitress was helpful.

I was told to be one of the best Indian restaurant in Melbourne. Beware .... This is just ordinary Indian restaurant with average food and pathetic arrogant service. Its rated so high because Melbourne doesn't have decent Indian restaurants to offer. The owner is so rude and arrogant because of good ratings (reason hardly any competitor). They need to learn... Wow the food is excellent here. Seriously good food. Portions have got smaller and the prices a little higher over the years since i first visited here but he quality is still strong. I guess the best way to describe the service is; understated and fair...but not quick or focused. It's the food you come here for though and it's... More

Visited for a Sunday night dinner based on a friends recommendation. Service from arrival to departure was disorganised & lacking the usual Melbourne standards. It generally came across on the night as the patrons were at times an imposition to the waiting staff. After being seated we eventually were offered menus, patiently awaiting our order to be taken we contemplated... More

We had dinner here tonight. Staff very friendly and attentive. The entree was quite spicy for us but very delicious. For main we had a really nice butter chicken. Naans were great! Lovely evening, we will come again next time we visit Melbourne!!

Ordered food sarson ka saag and maaki ki roti which was delicious, but other order instead of sweet lassi was given mango lassi and mango chutney instead of indian mango pickle. The sarson ka saag and maaki ki roti already had salad but the waitresses fail to tell us while taking order and we ordered another onion salad, which we... More

The food is great! However the staff not so much. It doesnt seem like they have any kind of table number system, we got an old receipt with a hand written number which we had to leave on our table, we got approached multiple times by a waiter with food asking if we ordered food which we didnt, took 4... Great indian restaurant with some nice tables to sit on. I ordered Tikka Masalla (spicy) with rice and it was absolutely delicious. You get a main dish for around 16 $ + 2-4 $ for a bowl of rice depending on the size. Garlic naan costs 3,5 and was really good. The tofu dish of my partner was also superb.... More

Staying in Chinatown

Neighbourhood Profile
Chinatown
Locals know that Chinatown is the tried and true place to eat before hitting the nightclub scene. The place simply buzzes, and the well-preserved buildings exude a sense of Imperial China stemming from immigration over a century ago. In restaurant after restaurant on Little Bourke Street, you'll find delicious dishes such as sizzling honeyed prawns, and value for your money. Stately matrons oversee family kitchens serving up age-old recipes. The lighting may be unromantic, the patrons loud, and the service no-nonsense, but the food is sensational.
