What an amazing experience from beginning to end! The food here is so good, my wife and I shared the mixed Maki plate of kingfish and salmon, Buddha dumplings, the spicy pork ramen and wagyu beef. It was the best Japanese food we have had since going to Japan more than a year ago! (And we've had a lot of... More

Friends and I eat here regularly and have for a few years. Went through a rough patch a while back but seems to be totally back on track. Great service and consistently good food that arrives quickly. Favourites are the Tori Soboro Somen (aka Japanese spaghetti) and the Bibimbap. Love that they offer brown rice as an option. Some dishes... More

Chocolate buddha has a great location in Fed Square and delicious food. I thoroughly enjoyed their pork belly (crackling fried to perfection) and the flavours of the sashimi brown rice have inspired me to recreate it at home! Their green tea is nice and bitter. Service was accomodating and quick.

Had dinner here last night at late notice.. wandered in and fortunately for us we were accommodated.. staff were very friendly, food was great, we were talked into the chocolate spring rolls which did not let us down one bit.. the menu seems to allow for various intolerances, all done while watching the tennis on the fed square tv. Definitely... More

Second time I've had the pleasure of dining at Chocolate Buddha and once again had a fabulous night. Both foid and drinks were amazing and the service fantastic - highly recommend the koji espresso martini and the pork belly.

In town for the Australian Open and looked for a place to watch the tennis and have some food. We found the perfect spot we can only recommend to everyone! Our favourite was the soft shell crab roll! A must and super fresh.

This was so good I returned twice in one day. Delicious light nutrient dense Japanese. The staff were wonderful, warm and explanatory. It was very memorable.

As my daughter is coeliac - the gluten free menu is very much appreciated. In fact when my daughter has a choice for lunch in the city it is always here! She loves the miso soup and also normally has some sushi too.. The only thing I think the menu lacks is a big, tasty salad - especially on these... More

Day trip to Melbourne to the John Olsen Art exhibition at NGV. Decided to gave a light japanese lunch at Chocolate Buddha. Both of us had the Lunch tray - one with Miso Pork Belly and the other with Eggplant. Both delicious and tremendous value with salad, broccoli with sesame dressing, salmon sashimi, miso soup, and steamed rice. Then on... More

Staying in Central Business District

Neighbourhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
