Went for a late night feed with a mate. Didn’t want anything fancy. Expected a dodgy cheap restaurant but also expected reasonable food. Wrong. The dumplings were like rubber and tasted like they’d been steamed in chlorine or ammonia. Absolutely disgusting. Will never return. No...More

Steamed and fried pork dumplings. Is there anything better in life?! Fast service. Lots of friendly interactions with local customers. Authentic feel just like I was eating in a dumpling house on a side street in Shanghai.

It may look dodgy but woman is the food good and great value! Roughly $16 for all you can eat. Would recommend.

This was by far the worst dining experience I've ever had. Didn't get food poisoning which is a plus, but I was definitely expecting it though! The upstairs area didn't look like it had been cleaned, ever, and a large percentage of the cutlery was...More

I have been going to the Shanghai Dumpling House for many years. The dumplings are quite inexpensive and always come quick and hot. The hot and sour soup must be among Melbourne's best dish. A filling meal, with dumplings and hot and sour soup for...More

Now this is not a place to go if you want somewhere fancy. The decor, the music, the attire of the staff is VERY basic. Generally too, there is not a smile to be found amongst the staff, though I must say this has improved...More

My wife and I have been here several times before and always had a great experience. This time we took our 4 children (3yrs to 16yrs old) there for dinner, they all loved it! Great value for money to be able to feed a family...More

This is not a fancy restaurant, but an okay spot for plates of dumplings. We were there the day of the grand final parade and arrived simultaneously with about 50 other people. The floor staff were overwhelmed so it took some time to be served....More

I had lunch at Shanghai Dumpling House in Melbourne. It was recommended in my guide book as a "Melbourne institution" for the dumplings, and "one of the last places in town for lunch under $10"). Shanghai Dumpling House is tucked away off the main road,...More

We went for casual lunch with friends and I had eaten there before but the quality of good was terrible. The dumplings were boiled, not steamed and tasted like they had come directly from the freezer or worse. Avoid at all costs.

Hi Lauren. There might be vegan dumplings. Best way to find out for sure would be to contact them directly for an answer.

When I went I was with a gluten free friend and she ate so I know they would have something although not dumplings. Actually they had a really lovely streamed ginger fish if I remember correctly.
