We have been visiting The Riverhead regularly. The service is always great especially Janet. The new menu was great. I enjoyed the steak with leeks and onions.

Warm, nice place with river views. There is a space to improve the menu and cuisine. The service is good. We were not impressed or disappointed. All good.

Thanks so much for taking the time to post your review. Having travelled ourselves it was motivation for us to showcase NZ and it's special 'low key' attributes to the world. We think New Zealand has something special to offer which isn't always appreciated until...More

Dropped in to the Riverhead Pub on a sunny Sunday afternoon to sample the much-advertised refurbished restaurant. It has a pleasant view at high tide and a lot of effort has gone into turning part of a westie pub into something special. Sadly it doesn't...More

Description
Nestled on the shores of the upper Waitemata, The Riverhead is steeped in local history and was a vital part of the development of early New Zealand. Prior to The Riverhead being built on this site, Thomas Deacon, the original owner, owned a pub on the point just below where The Riverhead now stands. The early Maori used this landing point as the place to disembark and portage their waka across land to the Kumeu River to get easier access to the lands in the Far North. Early immigrants then used this same route to travel north, disembarking at Helensville and continuing by ship north via the Kaipara Harbour.
