We were planning to go to the restaurant next door which I had been to and really enjoyed but it was full so we wandered down the road and down the stairs to Kura. We were immediately happy with our choice the atmosphere was brilliant and beautiful. The food was a match to the space and I would definitely make... More

I was taken to Kura by a colleague and it was an excellent choice! The door to the main road is easy to miss - and you walk down a flight of stairs to the bar. Very fresh sashimi - lovely presentation and overall very tasty. We had a sashimi platter, miso soup, and spider crab sushi, and cooked salmon... More

First off, the entrance is a bit weird - you have to take external stairs to the second floor. That's ok. But once you get in, it's a great place. It has a lot of character and the food is really good.

Nice yummy food - they get that we need to be finished in order to get to the theatre near by. The buttress wall that forms the eastern wall of the restaurant is really cool

First time visitors with friends. A great experience from having to remove your shoes to sit on the floor, to the range of sake and beer available, to the excellent food. Would go again. Had a great entertaining evening.

We have been to Kura on a few occasions and it has been very good. Our visit tonight (pre a show) was very disappointing. The food was not its usual high quality. The maitre de explained that the had just lost their manager and so were dealing with that disruption. He was very apologetic. I wouldn't write them off yet... More

This place is real food rock n roll. Dining here is not just eating it's an experience. Contemporary approach to Japanese cuisine but utilising the freshest local produce. Fun, loud, vibrant, boozer friendly - the next best thing to a night out in Tokyo!

One of the most missed restaurants after moving out from Auckland. Very creative Japanese food while retain its traditional culture. I just cannot complain any of the dishes I had in the past. This is a must-go restaurant every-time when I go to Auckland. Strongly recommended the beef&cheese roll, the rainbow roll, and the fresh and juicy sashimi combination.

Dinner out with a friend became a lovely affair. We had not booked ahead so had to be seated at the bar, that was the best thing that could have happened. We sat in front of the sushi chef and witnessed plate after plate of amazing sashimi and sushi being made. The menu is very traditional and offers a variety... More

Our go to places for an early dinner before a concert. Warm, welcoming and unpretentious. Food consistently excellent and well presented. Sushi and sashimi some of the best on the city, often serviced with fresh wasabi. Try the rainbow roll... My favourite.

Kura is modern fusion Japanese. We do all the favourites like sushi, tempura and teriyaki but sometimes with a little twist.
