I'm a regular weekly diner now. John weaves his magic each week on his specials. Could be a dangerous move for a chef, but not John. You Sabroso regulars need to step out and go for the specials - will not be disappointed. I'm from Sydney and reckon Sabroso is the best Mexican I've ever eaten. Make sure you book... More

I've tired dining here four times previously, but no tables were available (as we were walk-ins). We were lucky this time getting last table available. I now know why it's so popular, and booking table is a must if you really want to dine here. Service was prompt and excellent, wait staff knew the menu and gave good advice on dishes... More

This Latin restaurant is truly a gem. Latin-inspired flavors are my favorite cuisine, and Sabroso certainly did not disappoint. I ordered the chili con hongos, blue mahi ceviche, and potatoes. Every bite was excelente! My friends also recommend the pollo bahiano, chile relleno, and taza de chocolate for dessert. Definitely a worthwhile find in Rotorua!

We are well travelled, love good restaurants and ,although not food elites , are rather particular. I feel bad that most of my reviews on Trip Advisor have been negative. I get to reverse that trend with Sabroso. I was first struck that most of the tables were reserved at 7:30 on Sun. They limit their seatings to maintain quality.... More

The food was absolutely delicious and authentic from what little I know about South American dishes. The menu had a good selection of both fish and vegetarian dishes (meat possibly too, but we didn't have any). Portion sizes were more than enough for us (We each had as recommended two small plates with a side of papas aka potatoes per... More

As advised on their website, we booked a table and we pleased we had done so as the restaurant was fully booked. Having said that, the turnaround was fairly quick and I think most tables had 2 bookings during the evening. We started with the corn chips and 3 dips. Wow! PILES of delicious crunchy warm corn chips. Didn't think... More

Incredible variety of dishes inspired from across South America. Hot sauce comes with the food so you can tailor the spice level and make it as spicy as you like...most dishes come mild so can be enjoyed by all (I have very low spice tolerance and can handle everything except the prawn stew). The tapas selection is a great option... More
