Chose Funicular for breakfast on our way out of Wellington...bad move! Wish we had just had a subway breakfast like we first intended to do. There was only my partner and I to begin with but the service was so slow, almost 25 minutes we waited and it certainly wasn't worth waiting for. The eggs Benedict was passable but the... More

I found this cafe when I wanted somewhere to eat that wasn't a chain meal. I had the lamb gnocchi, with roasted vegetable and raw energy with pomegranate dressing salads, with a slice of lemon tart for dessert. So, so good. Service was quick, efficient and friendly, and as it was after the lunch rush, I could sit at the... More

Convenient with a great range of foods for people on the run - variety of table sizes and views of Lambton Quay. I tend to go there most times I am on business trips to the Capital

I have been a regular at Funicular for several years. Their food and service is consistently good - I particularly like their counter salad selection which is always yum! - and the location is central to the CBD.

this place was recommended, we qued up in a line counting the 3 of use, were 6 others in front. took forever. we had a time limitation. one person did cash register, serving, platting up, which wasn't very efficient given it was a lunch time crowd. i order two types salads in small bowl $10, mediocre, i ordered seafood chowder... The $NZ4 was reasonably priced to pay for the expediency, or novelty for that matter, to reach the summit and lookout over this wonderful city. An American tourist pointed out the Cricket "Court" half way up the ride to his friend/spouse. A cup of coffee and a muffin looked enticing at the Cafe' but time constraints prevented any such distractions.... More

Lot to be impressed with this establishment- friendly and obliging staff. I ordered a chicken salad which was delicious. My wife had a steak and cheese pie which she really enjoyed.

Ordered 2 cups of coffees, gnocchi and a pie for $44. Food was ok but it's really expensive considering that the portions were small. We can easily find better stuffs elsewhere. Staff were friendly and tables were cleared really quickly for the next customers.

Went to funicular for lunch with girlfriends - great selection of salads and quiche/frittata/pie type things. Food was good value for money and service was friendly and efficient. Only small thing was our 4 meals all came out at different times - pet peeve of mine!!

Stopped for lunch. Not really busy but one would have thought so. Person behind counter was ordering staff around left right and centre. Achieved little. All were under pressure and confused in the end. I suggested taking my order number from the pile of plastic 'cards' but was assured "No need"! Bad choice. My Lamb Moussuka arrived and was reasonable.... More
