Came down from Auckland to Wellington with my best friend for a short holiday to celebrate getting into university. I am 17 and my friend is 18 and in New Zealand the drinking age is 18. A week before going down to wellington my mum called Matterhorn to ask if it was okay that I went in for dinner as... More

Our friends from Tauranga suggested we try Matterhorn. It was a fabulous meal. I had the Lamb Rump and, honestly, I do not think I have ever asked a more tender bit of lamb. It was accurate accompanied by some sweetbreads, delicious green beans and a small scoop of yoghurt. A real taste treat. My wife had the market fish... More

A group of seven of us spent a very enjoyable evening here. We started with drinks in their courtyard. Their whisky, beer and wine lists are quite extensive and impressive even though they were annoyingly out of a few things. Appetizers were all quite tasty though annoyingly you can't enjoy mains outside, you have to be in the dining room... More

So many people like Matterhorn for the full dinner experience. I recommend the bar area under the skylight for drinks and nibbles. My smoked fish entree was plentiful and very tasty as a light dinner @ the bar. Plus, the bartender matched it with a lovely dry Gvertz. Nice combo. Everyone at the Matterhorn was most welcoming and friendly, making... More

Unfortunately the lovely meal, superb waitress and pleasant ambience was spoiled by having to share the restaurant with constant cigarette smoke from the adjoining 'smoking area' which was open to the main restaurant. Great if you are a smoker but I won't be back unfortunately.

This was a return visit and was just as good as previous visits. Intelligent and interesting cocktails, great wine list and the food was of a very high standard. Seafood was great, the scallop entree and fish with clams main were wonderful. The pig tail (as a "black pudding") and pork belly was also great. The service was very good.... More

We stopped in the Matterhorn for a drink one evening. The place was very quiet, probably too early for dinner rush, so we got a nice corner seat. Service was slow, both receiving menues, placing orders and especially receiving the order. We ordered 2 rounds of cocktails, and the cocktails were very nice, well made (probably why we waited 20min... More

A group of 4 of us booked in well in advance for dinner on New Year's Eve and was looking forward to it. Food was amazing as always but service left a lot to be desired. Had to wait a long time for menus, water, ordering drinks and a waiter to be allocated to us even though the restaurant was... More

For the sake of a broad dining experience It's an advantage to be a group of 4 people and you share among each other , even if it's just a bite. We did it and therefore all of us got a very good idea about the taste, smell, texture, and of course look of 8 different dishes. We had scallops, venison tartar, lasagne,lamb,sirloin,asparagus...
