Good main course of curried fish but entree disappointing. I ordered the paua patties after reading a positive review of them on tripadvisor. Unfortunately they were tasteless and stodgy with very little paua in them.

It looks terrible, scratched plastic tables, no outlook, bric a brac, dark... but the prices are POSH. Don't bother! Pleasant staff but they added two extra drinks to our bill. $24 extra... six raw oysters cost $27..come on! and my fish curry just wouldn't settle, kept me awake... better retreat to home cooking! Sorry to be negative, hate doing that..... More

I was lucky to go eat at Plato's. You feel like you are in a 50is restaurant, the place is full of chachkies, but when you get your food, you will be AMAZED!!!! Their food menu is very extensive and you will have several choices for just about anything your heart desires. I chose the fish of the day, and... More

Quirky and charming. Great food. Great service. A real treat when visiting Dunedin. May not look much from the outside, but the moment you step inside it will be obvious you're in the right place. An eclectic collection of nick-nacks, crockery and tea pots adorn the interior. The real highlight is super fresh seafood prepared with thought and care. Loved... More

Went to Plato for a celebration dinner and had a wonderful experience. Quirky decor, delicious food from a wonderfully varied menu, with George providing exceptional service through our entire time (even tolerating my father's humour :) ) Would recommend this restaurant and will definitely be back.

Dont be fooled by ther entrance. Inside the restaurant there is lots of toy artifacts. The staff were very helpful and I wanted to have a tuna steak but with mashed potato. No trouble to change and the food was cooked to order with a fine array of choices

My husband and I consider ourselves foodies, and the lack of tasty fresh finds on our roadtrip along the Southern Scenic route, we wanted to find an exiting place to refresh our senses. We found Plato on tripadvisor, and WOW what a place. Super friendly and observant staff. We shared a hand minced paua (burger/fishcake) as a starter. I had... More

A hidden gem of a restaurant, decor all, very quirky with hundreds of coffee pots lining the window sills. Interesting picture of the owner as a younger man. . We were recommended the restaurant by our hosts as we never would have found it, The fish pie is one of their most popular dishes and very delicious. Lots of choice of... More

My husband and I went there for a "special " dinner. The place had been recommended to us. We loved the whole experience. The waiting staff were courteous and explained the specials etc. The wine came quickly . We had the squid and also the paua as starters and they were delish. Especially the squid. We both got fish of... More

This really is a hidden gem. Initially you think you must be in the wrong place as you seem to be going into the Seamans Mission! Turn right into the cave of 1970's coffee pots! Fresh fish, well curated wines. Reasonably priced. Did I say great fish!
