We ordered lamb cutlets as a starter (to share) followed by a scallop curry and a chicken curry as our mains. All were delicious with the lamb cutlets being a particular highlight. While the meals are not cheap, the quality and quantity is well worth the prices paid - the lamb cutlets were sized like a main and they were not stingy with the scallops either. Service was also excellent - friendly and attentive without being cloying. Some of the best Indian food we've had. Would definitely return as we are keen to try out more of the menu!

Family of five thoroughly enjoyed the meal. The food was generous portions and the spice was always exactly what we wanted. You can say the amount of spice you prefer and they’ll get you that amount. Our favourites were the tender chicken chapatis, lamb kofta, butter chicken, and naan bread.

We booked a table for two just after Level 1 of the corona pandemic was announced. We were served by our lovely waitress Lara who was very accommodating and delivered awesome service! The food itself was the best Indian food I have ever had in New Zealand. The dishes are not traditional ones you would find in other restaurants but I would say that's what makes them even more unique. It was very tasty, the mains as well as the Tandoori platter we had as a starter. Would definitely recommend and come back any day. Prices are higher than at other Indian restaurants but it is definitely justified by the food quality.

Not worth the money. 6 of us . Way too less positions for starters. Being from a hospitality background if u see 6 people at the table, one tandoori chicken and 1 prawn starter, you should have told us that tandoori chicken only has 2 pieces. Wat a waste of money.

Small little place with seating for about 20-24 people inside. They don’t take reservations and so there are always long wait times. After being seated our order was taken about 20-25 minutes later and the food arrived another 30-45 minutes later. Food was good and staff was friendly but DEFINITELY not worth the wait. There was another guest on table next to us who were seated an hour before us and still had not received their order. They only got their food after the guest went up and talked with the manager about it. They should definitely look to start taking reservations or expand their current seating and kitchen.

I walked in to the restaurant and was not acknowledged for a length of time. I was then seated (there were a number of empty tables) and a staff member put water on my table and a menu without acknowledging of talking to me. Having viewed the menu and decided what to order I waited...and waited...and waited. In the end I left, as they obviously didn’t want me as a customer.

When rung up to make a takeaway order I was aware of the 25 minute wait, following arriving to store and assuring I had paid for my order with a very rude man behind the bar, I paid. Expecting to receive my food, he than walked away and left me standing in there for almost 30 minutes in a “very tight” hallway only to find myself in the way of staff taking food from the kitchen/beverages. When asked by another staff member “what exactly are you waiting for” I than happily replied that I was waiting on my order of food. Following that she than told me that “it was strange because it had been ready 20 minutes previously” with no apology for the wait or lack of communication I was not impressed, retuning to my hotel with a almost cold meal and lack of flavour.

Having eaten curries throughout Asia it takes a lot for me to be impressed. but the quality and unique flavours of the dishes was outstanding. I had the Venison curry as I had never seen this dish - it was cooked perfectly and the meat was tender with just enough spice. If you’ve walked passed this place, you’ve missed out big time. The staff ( we even met the Chef) were also very friendly and had intensive knowledge of each dish. Location is central and the prices are very fair for this standard of food. See you again soon.

We were 4 friends this place. All really exited to try this place because it had such a high reviews We got drinks ,appetizer, main and desserts But our waiters is not very interested to be there , just makes us feel unwelcome. Like- why are you even here ? Maybe it’s to fancy place and we did not fit in ? After we had the main meal we even need to go and ask the dessert menu… I want to point out we are the only table it's not like they can blame it on being busy The menu is fun to ordering from The appetizer is alright we had some tacos and paneer For main my friend order mild but his food is so spicy he even could not finish it - but due to being no service he could not get any help. I had some chickens and I really like it ! Other melas was no hit. Overall I will not recommend people to go here. It’s kind of expensive and Queenstown have many good indian restaurants I am not sure why this one has so high up review Maybe we just had a bad night at this place?

The Taj Queenstown
Thank you for giving us your feedback, and we are really sorry to hear about your experience. As at Taj we always try to welcome our guest with a smile and get them seated in a way to make them feel comfortable . Regarding your review when I inquired with the staff and checked our systems I found out that you had a first table booking and everything was normal as usual . Staff also said that while taking order you asked if you can get 3 pieces of Taco instead of 2 which they did for you and they never said anything which would make you feel why are you even here or we are too fancy restaurant .They said that they even checked your starters and mains and everyone was fine no one complained about anything and when he was trying to clear your table your friend asked for the desert menu . I did brief my staff to be more polite and friendly in future taking your feedback positively . May be there has been a misunderstanding somewhere but still we always respect your feedbacks and try to improve ourselves .

My friends and I visited the Taj for an evening meal and were blown away by both the food and the service. We ordered a variety of meat and vegetarian dishes which were delicious and served by the lovely Olivia who was friendly and attentive. By far the best Indian food in Queenstown. Would 100% recommend!

We ate here last night, having been here before on previous visits to Queenstown I had the Nilgiri Murg which was bland and had the worst cut of chicken with bones in it. Meant to be a house special. Maybe the chef had an off day... On the plus side Naan bread was OK but was overly oily The server/waitress was really good and done a fantastic job

Staff were attentive and efficient throughout our visit. The food was delicious and very well presented. Meal sizes were very generous. Great location too, with views over Queenstown Bay and surrounds. While a little more expensive than other Indian Restaurants we have dined at, it was money well spent for such a great experience. We will be back!

Family meal out while on holiday. Awesome service and the food was fantastic. Although not listed as butter chicken or chicken korma the staff explained to the kids the equivalent on the menu and it was on of the best Indian meals we have had, can recommend the butter chicken and chicken korma and dumplings.

Everyone knows a good Indian restaurant nearby where you get a very tasty meal for a reasonable price. Taj Kitchen stood out because the food, presentation and service were the next level up from your cheerful neighbourhood Indian restaurant. Really excellent

I ordered a couple of stuffed naan breads pickup order (prepaid via their website) but for whatever reasons order ticket wasn't picked up by their staff. On my arrival, they found the ticket and I had to wait 5-10 minutes (which is not bad). Naan breads were huge and worth the price. Nice interior/decor, table setup looked elegant and staff was friendly and welcoming. Will be back with partner and friends for dinner when next in QT.
