We thought we would try here for our morning coffee. The service was excellent so we soon found ourselves at a table with friendly service person. We put in our order and sat and had a read. My husband received the fruit toast he ordered but our coffees hadn't turned up, luckily this was noticed and our coffees were chased up and when they arrived they were just how we had ordered. We sat in the courtyard which is very pretty. When we return to Echuca this is where we will come for coffee.

Brought back to holiday accomodation over stay a variety of dishes and coffees.
Shrugs and thanks a common refrain. However, J & L toasted breakfast sandwich
and latte received a delicious exclamation “best I’ve had all time here”. Next time we eat in.

We headed to Johnny & Lyle for brunch on a Saturday morning.
We sat out the front but there is also a lovely courtyard as well as inside the cafe.
The coffee was of a high standard and the breakfast bagel was delicious.

It took almost one hour to serve breakfast. I don't know why it takes 1 hour for preparing 2 eggs when less time it takes to prepare steak.
When you ask for update on the order the answer is always within 5 min, but it takes much longer. Not sure what type of watch they use.
Food was ok, but nothing special to be worth waiting 1 hour. Tried much better brunch in other restaurants.

Unfortunately we were unable to make you happy from the second you walked in, strike one was when we had no space left in our beautiful courtyard. I’m sorry that we were so busy. It is untrue that your food took over an hour as no one at all waited more than 45 minutes on a day when we served over 400 breakfasts. You complained that your coffee was half an hour when in fact it was under 10 minutes and this was shown to you via the docket time. As you paid, we offered to refund your money and you declined. I asked what would make you happy. You said “nothing”. We don’t normally “bite” on replying to such reviews but honestly I don’t know what more we could have done for you as a customer.

My wife and I drove 2.5 hours just to have lunch here as we had a great experience last year. Its a lovely spot outdoors to sit and eat. The food was very nice as usual but I had one issue - I eat a ketogenic diet. People who eat keto diets will appreciate there is nothing better than a café that does build your own all-day-breakfast with a big list of items to add like extra bacon/eggs, grilled halloumi, sausage, avocado & chorizo etc. Just subtract the bread and Bob's your Uncle it's keto! Well this café has the lot!! With one unfortunate exception...
They are the only café I have ever been to out of hundreds of cafe's all over Australia that serves middle bacon... Yep all the fat is gone, it's just the eye of the cut which becomes dry without the fat... Which of course also means less tasty (because fat and carbs is what makes any food taste amazing) and of course makes this not overly keto friendly.
I put in some feedback with the service attendant and he came back and informed me that the chef or owner stated that middle bacon is his personal preference. Quite a shame since this is otherwise an amazingly keto friendly establishment which I sadly wont be able to come back to.
I really hope this changes. Still a great place for everything else!!

Called in for a quick breakfast before a cruise on the Murray River. The place was full and we were concerned that, as we had arrived late, we would not be able to be served before we would have to depart. The manageress listened to our situation and assured us that we would be served and fed within 25 minutes. She made it happen. Next time we will arrive with more time to enjoy this bustling and very pleasant venue and its customer service. Much bigger than it looks from the street.

We stayed just up the road and were walking past on our way to the main shops. There's a large courtyard which drew us in. VERY comfortable chairs and a lovely ambience. The staff were all friendly and attentive. The food was delicious as were the coffees. I really enjoyed my iced coffee - it was served with real cream and was served in a proper glass, not in a jar (jars are one of my pet peeves!) Would definitely go again when next in Echuca.

Overall, we were disappointed with this establishment. The food was very good , and the time taken to serve it was reasonable—the staffing levels were adequate. The coffee was very good. The ambience of this heritage building was perfect.
However, the service was poor. We found every staff member we encountered, overly officious. From snapping out the request—almost a demand— for a vaccination certificate, to dropping items down on our table, without a pleasantry or even eye contact, we felt we were a necessary burden, in order for the business to extract our $50 fee. After paying, I walked past 3 staff members, one I assume being the owner, but none bothered to say thank you for our patronage. We saw the same officiousness offered as “service”, to everyone who entered the establishment.
The business is in a prime location for passing tourists, and it is obviously heavily patronised. Unfortunately, we felt patronised: not welcome.

Hi there, thanks for your feedback. It is surprising and disappointing to hear this was your experience as you can see from all of our other reviews that our "friendly and efficient service" is consistently praised.
All I can say in our defence is that upon re-opening we have been overwhelmingly busy with additional roles (such as checking that all patrons are vaccinated, as we can be fined if we do not) and therefore my wonderful staff are often flat out accommodating everyone, although I truly apologise that this was not the case for you. I encourage you to give us another go as I believe your experience will be different.

Good Evening Johhny & Lyle
Thank you so much for getting all 22 of us seated in the garden. The setting was perfect. The breakfast was beyond perfect. Couldn't believe how big the breakfast meals were. The coffee was absolutely spot on for taste and temp. I think we pretty much had everything on the menu. We were very greatful & impressed on how quickly breakfast came out and the visits from wait staff making sure everything was good. Better than good, your staff and the food should be advertised if not already by the local Shire. Thank you so much. We WILL see you again.
Regards
Steve Gerrard

I take my 89 yr old mother there on outings from her aged care home. She loves to splash out and have tasty treats that differ from her normal food. Pancakes with banana, strawberries and maple syrup are an absolute favourite. Johnny and Lyle have a great selection of tasty food to pick from, great variety, great presentation. The staff and very accommodating and friendly. I am able to book in advance and get a table outside under the shade or inside in the cool depending on the weather. We love the outside area with the red brick work and green foliage.

Freshly sqeezed orange juice seemed much more like something poured rather than squeezed - perhaps it could have been one of those machine made ones? Disappointing anyway.
Bacon and eggs with hollandaise had really nice flavour but was cool when it arrived and sauce had started to congeal on top.Served hot it would have been excellent.
Only one option for museli on the menu which was a Quinoa vegan. OK for what it was but would prefer a great house made more convetional option.
Setting is great for adults and kids.
Many great reviews and had heard only good things so may just have been a slip up.Rreasonably priced.

Thanks for the review. We receive many compliments on our orange juice which is absolutely squeezed in-house, but we are sorry that it was not to your liking. We are pleased you had an overall positive experience and hope to see you again.

We were seated in a very pleasant courtyard. The menu is extensive enough to suit all tastes. I had the smashed avocado and a strawberry milkshake and my friend had eggs with Turkish bread and hollandaise sauce. The serves were large and my avo had very nice complementary ingredients. My milkshake was delicious. We did have quite a wait for our breakfast, but we were not in a hurry and we were happy sitting chatting. Our drinks came out before the meal which we were pleased with.

We was a group of 20, the service was excellent, didn’t have to wait long for our food even though they were very busy. Everyone enjoyed their breakfast, and drinks. I’ve had weight loss surgery and they allowed me to order from the kids menu which I still couldn’t fully eat. Will visit again if we’re in the area, big thumbs up 🙂

From the moment we sat down the customer service was great, the courtyard was lovely, the staff were kept very busy with a stream of clientele coming in. Our table of 7 were all very impressed when the food arrived, it was loaded with flavour & was very enjoyable. Highly recommended, We will be back again tomorrow.

Enjoyed a very tasty breakfast at J&L.
The smashed avocado with pumpkin hummus and dukkah was an explosion of flavours for the palette!
The brekky burger was superb also which includes a hash brown, Swiss cheese and a tomato relish to die for on a toasted bagel.
Coffee is a personal favourite- Cats Pyjamas and tea from T2.
All good fresh and quality ingredients for a reasonable price. Great location with a lovely courtyard garden area to enjoy your meal.
