A friend, who lives in Thames, recommended this restaurant when I asked her advice on somewhere for dinner. We were not disappointed. On arrival we were offered the choice of a booth or an ordinary table, and chose the booth as they have comfortable seats. The waitress was courteous, brought iced water immediately and removed the extra place settings. We... More

My partner and I were on our way to coromandel and thought we would stop in Thames for dinner as a treat. We saw gastronomics was open so thought we would give them a try,We sat down and ordered our starter which was garlic bread drenched in butter which we didn't finish and we both ordered the "beef tender "... Gastronomics describes itself as an ‘award winning chef owned and operated restaurant’. We were sadly disappointed. Whilst the first course (we had venison kofta kabab and salt & pepper calamari) was fine, the “cranberry chicken” was very dry and the service was appalling. The single waitress, who appeared to have no idea what she was doing, attempted to remove the... More

We went out for a leisurely meal as we were on a sanity break. The decor was pleasing and there weren't too many people in. The menu looked great and there was plenty to choose from.We ordered a Whitebait fritter as an ontree and then a main to follow. The fritter was great but before we had finished the main arrived,... We had planned to go to another restaurant but there was a function. Instead we spotted Gastronomics Restaurant and Bar across the road. We went in and were offered a booth and given the menus. The restaurant was not busy. The menu looked interesting. 5 minutes or so later, I went through to the bar area to enquire (of the... More

Excellent menu, delicious food. There was an extensive menu, average pricing. Service a little slow but it was a busy Saturday night and as we were chatting it didn't faze us.

Have been here a few times and has been OK, but disappointed on our last visit. The entre was good, but the smoked salmon was inedible...dry, overcooked and did not even look appetizing. Had one bite and left the rest. The waitress did not even make mention of this when clearing the table, but asked if we wanted dessert. Informed... More

At the end of the Hauraki Rail Trail we visited the Gastronomics Restaurant in the main street of Thames opposite the cinema on the recommendation of Tuscany motel and JollyBikes. We were pleasantly tired after 3 days of riding the spectacular trail and wanted a fairly quick but good meal. Kishan Raikwar who has owned and run the restaurant and... More

We were very disappointed with our meal on Friday night. The menu said the Chef was experienced. When we enquired further we were informed he was no longer the chef. My husband was ill when we arrived home and woke in the night feeling sick. He also had diaohrea. My potatoes were old and reheated (not cooked that day). My... More

Go here from time to time and have taken our friends and family - always come away happy with our evening. Offer a good variety and some different styles away from the usual. Like to have the table in the window and enjoy watching the passerbys and the patrons from the pub across the road - they've gone to the... More
