We stopped off here for lunch - and were not disappointed! There is a good variety of foods offered here - from pastries/ sausage rolls/ pies / sandwiches / soups and snacks to full meals. I opted for the home made hearty soup and a cheese and onion filled pastry - both were delicious .Husband had fish and chips -... More

Loved the food. We wanted a big breakfast and we got one. The service was above average. The decor, ambience, etc was pretty basic. Something distinctive to liven it up would be good.

On our way by Intercity from Picton to Christchurch we stopped at Kaikoura for a comfort stop and had just enough time for a late lunch. Opposite the bus stop there are quite a few restaurants, but the driver said try “The Why Not Cafe” so we thought, why not. It has been recently refurbished. It’s not plush or big,... More

Had breakfast at the cafe. Coffee was a bit burnt for both of us. But breakfast was above average . I had mince on toast and it had great flavours added to the dish. Will return again.

We went to Kaikoura for the first time. we decided to eat here cuz of its catching Name. We ordered fish and chips and my partner had a chocolate milkshake. He was very satisfied with the drinks. While road tripping north to catch the ferry in Picton, we stopped in Kaikoura - which is an absolute must along the east coast. The cafe was offering a $10 fish and chips with salad meal. The fish and chips were great and having something green on our plate was so appreciated. The servers were friendly and helpful. I would... More

We found this cafe 'accidentally'. What a lovely place. The lunch food options were varied and they also had blackboard specials. The coffee and hot chocolates were great. The staff are helpful and friendly and nothing was too much trouble. We ate here twice, once on our way north and then returned on our way back to Christchurch a week... More

Once again we had a delicious breakfast at Why Not Cafe. It's out go to eating place in Kaikoura. Always has great food and friendly service. I inadvertently ordered the wrong coffee (totally my error) but they happily replaced it no charge (I offered to pay). We highly recommend this cafe!

The staff were very helpful when we got off the intercity coach and let us use their phone. We went in for lunch and supper while we were there and enjoyed the food.
